| Thoughts on 06 Cayman S?
I might be getting pretty good deal on 06 Cayman S, Canadian car with 56k.
I had my current s2k for 3 years already so being 2 seater, no trunk space etc etc does not concern me at all.. (if anything Cayman will be way more practical)
Any known issue for being first year production? Anything to watch out for?

I think its a natural upgrade from your current car. Don't know about any issues but it should be a blast to drive.

should lurk around the porsche forums ... these cars sometimes have identical problems other owners on the forums can tell you and warn you what to check for before you buy it.

Energy/ yeah totally agreed. I drove boxster/cayman few times and it was blast
Anyways, I'm doing my own research as wall.
I'm checking out pca.org as well.
Just wanted to find out some more opinion here as well.

| Porsche Club of America - Canada West Region is our new local website & forum, fairly quiet at the moment. Porsches by Jeffs and a Steve is the carry over of the old club website, still fairly active. Rennlist Cayman Forums is where to go if you want to read extensive first hand owner experiences, mods, repairs, DIYs, etc etc.
On those three forums alone you will find enough people locally to give you all the advice you need to know. I would recommend having SCAN Auto in North Van, or if you're nearer to False Creek, Weissach or MB Euro or Blitzkreig, do a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) just to make sure the car doesn't have any issues that you may not be aware of.
I've driven a few Caymans, and autocrossed a few as well. Absolutely fantastic car, and the only irk I have with them is the lack of factory limited slip (they are all one-wheel drive) due to the fact that an S w/ LSD (limited slip) will out perform a base 911 on most tracks.
Another forum member (lowside) is just on the verge of pulling the trigger on a cayman s, if he hasn't already, and honestly I never expected him to switch from BMWs to a Cayman.. so that says a lot.
Personally, I'd get an older 996 turbo before I got a newer cayman, but that's just me.

Its not fast, but the way it drives is much more forgiving and stable compared to my C4S
Steering feel, firm brakes are all just like every porsche. I just wish mine was a 6 spd or PDK instead of tiptronic.

I had very good experiences at Blitzkrieg. Cheyne and Bob @ Blitzkrieg know their P-cars inside and out and have far more diagnostic tools than the dealers. They're both familiar with the Cayman as my friend has brought his Cayman S to them several times. They're very friendly, knowledgeable and accomodating guys and have many years of Porsche club cup car racing experience under their belt. Make sure you check out their GT3 at the shop!
Always, always, always get a PPI + compression / leakdown test done.
Also check out the Pelican Parts Boxter & Cayman forum & Planet 9 forums. The Cayman S is an excellent car and suitable for daily driving if you have the lifestyle that fits it. Good luck and hopefully it works out for you!

It depends. A Cayman can be no more or less expensive to upkeep than a boxster or 911 with comparable equipment. It's not like a Cayenne Turbo with an uber complicated AWD system and super-cramped turbo plumbing to get in the way.
It depends on where you go for service. MCL will be the most expensive. SCAN and Blitzkreig and MB Euro will be a lot cheaper than MCL. Cheaper still if you do your own brakes and oil changes.
It depends on how the car was maintained and treated by the previous owner(s), and how it's treated by you. Obviously, daily city driving, and performance driving will put more severe strain on the car than Sunday pleasure driving.

I used to have a s2000 myself and went into a 911 but have driven a cayman S and boxster before I made the decision.
Test drive a cayman and a carrera, see which you like more before making a choice
Depending on the year you can find a '03 carrera with low mileage for low - mid 30s (in fact my old Porsche is for sale from the new owner I can give you info just pm me)
Not much needed to be done but the regular stuff like oil change, brakes. (for me atleast)
And if anything rich Sandor will gladly help you, he's helped me a lot during my ownership of my 996 Posted via RS Mobile |

kchan/ I would prefer later model Cayman than older Carrera.
I'm pretty sure 03 carrera is better car, but I'm not a big fan of older german cars.
Just trying to get 'relatively' trouble free car. (within Porsche line up anyways)
Low mileage 06-07 Cayman S fits the budget.

Low mileage 06-07 Cayman S fits the budget. | if you cant find a clean and low mileage cayman S, give SCAN a call you may talk to james and he'll gladly help you look around and provide excellent information on Porsche's as thats their shops specialty
make sure you do a PPI and also check if engine burns any oil, I've heard its a problem but im not 100% sure
