| Driving in HK
Hey guys. Is an international driving permit needed for me to drive my friend's car in HK?
Do car rental places ask for them?
Thanks

If you're there for less than 30 days then you can use the BC license. And if you're in an english friendly country, it's also fine.
If you were in a country with less english, you need to get an int'l license. Int'l licenses last 1 year, and you can do a super smile showing all your teeth on your picture..

It's a direct swap Posted via RS Mobile | Any car rental places in Hong Kong? How would insurance work, since ICBC only covers anywhere in Canada and USA.
If you live in Quebec, their coverage is worldwide. |

If you are a tourist or even a resident on a working visa that is less than 1 year, you can use your Canadian DL to be used in HK without an international driving permit. It has to be in English and seeing you have a BCDL, it will be ok.

If you're a tourist to HK, for a short period of time...you can drive in Hong Kong "on the strength of" your Canadian DL.
Question is, would you be then be required to carry around your Canadian passport at all times to go alongside your BCDL?

Whether you actually do and the chances of getting caught is a different thing.

The only way you can use your BCID is if you are a visitor of HK for less than 12 months and if that is the case, you would not have a HKID.
