I have been comparing itravel2000, travelocity, and expedia. So far itravel2000 has the lowest rate (they apparently even have lowest price guaranteed or free?) plus you earn Petro Points on your flight. | Friend's friend stayed at Grand Oasis last year and said the crowd was a bit more of a party crowd

The popular spot in cancun is where the college kids all go, and afford.
Oasis Cancun, or the Grand Oasis Cancun.
both are the same property but if your a "grand" guest, you stay in the middle pyramid and you wear Black wristbands. you get better drinks, access to all the restaurants and all the pools. Check out these Spring break pics from the oasis:
As I mentioned previously, I stayed at the "Me" cancun. which is where "The Real World Cancun" was filmed. Not really a bumping spot for mega parties, but nicer and not rowdy.
if you wanna get shitfaced, motorboat your way from pool to pool, unwillingly participate in a jersey shore look-a-like contest, fistpump your way to the bar while you beat that beat in a crowd of Snooki's. Have at'er.
just make sure you read the reviews on tripadvisor and always lock your door, and put everything in your safe. The security guards are corrupt, and seems like they are in on a lot of scams that happen to guests, which they are not liable for.

Just got back from Dream Tulum.
Resort is probably a 7.5/10.
I was there for a wedding with family (some kids under 7). There was pretty much nothing to do at night and the restaurants took FOREVER for service, sometimes more than 2 hours for 3 course meal. Food was average. Rooms were dated but acceptable. Beach wasn't as good as I expected.
The location is good though. Close to all the good excursions (Xplor, Xel Ha, Tulum Ruins) Drinks were strong, no pressure for tips like at the airport. I didn't see ANY timeshare people during the whole week either. There's no other resorts anywhere near Dreams so no wristbands and you can walk on the beach for a long time without encountering anyone else.
It's a great resort for families, crappy resort for couples/singles but I knew that before going there so it's basically what I expected.

Guys, just wondering if anyone could provide me with any suggestions. I'd like to go to Cancun but would like a place to relax more than anything...not really into the partying but more into the eating, nice accommodations, chillin and sightseeing. Preferably something around 4 stars with a budget of $1200-1300~ per person. This would be my first time travelling to an actual resort so I have no idea at all if my price range is even realistic...Any help would be appreciated!

Peter - Remember that Mexico's star rating is pretty much 1 star below the North American standard.
Their 4 star is more like a 3 star here.

Ah, okay.
Yeah, after talking to another buddy of mine he suggested I go with a 5 star. He suggested I search up princess chains and this other one I forgot...say's they're great when it comes to leisure and relaxation.
Definitely gonna search for a 5 star then, bro!

For those that have done all-inclusives in Cancun before... how much USD do you think should be taken down there for tips and other miscellaneous stuff?

^ it depends.... if your planning to stay in the resort all day and night, and not plan to buy souvenirs then 100 should be enough for misc crap and tips, (although i think most all inclusive packages include gratuities already in the price, technically you shouldnt have to bring any money, but thats just stupid)
when i went, i honestly could not stay at the resort the whole time, gets real boring fast,...i did about 3 excursions, avg about 80-100 each....took the cab to playa del carmen a few times....ate at the local restaurants there ...some souvenir shopping...etc..
i probably ended up spending another 500-600 on top?

Anyone ever stay there before? | I went to GR solaris during May last year. It was okay, there are more older people (cougars) than the younger crowds. Those people that work there are extremely nice and took us out to show us around.
Food is bleh, it's the same food over and over again. But the good thing is that if you're sick of the food there, you can definitely walk over to royal solaris for something different.
I tipped well to a couple of waiters that brought out drinks for us. They keeps on giving us some cool drinks / shots... I'd tell you to do the same to them.
Overall, 6.5-7/10 there..
I really dislike the sound control of the rooms there because you can hear the other room talking and stuff..

^ If we walk over to royal solaris and eat, do we just pay like its a normal restaurant? Since I don't think it's included in our all inclusive.

They recognized the wristband. I went to there and asked for drinks and they served it no problem.
You can always ask those guys to double check but it should be okay

Just came back from a week at the Live Aqua, and it was fantastic. Was there for a honeymoon, and it's adults only, and more of a relaxation resort, so not so much of the Spring Break partygoers.
All of the staff are very friendly, and basically all of the customer facing ones speak English. The food was very good all around, and the all inclusive included room service, which we used many times, even at 4am.
They have eight different pools that have different water temperatures, and a pristine beach.
