In two weeks time, The Viral Factor (逆戰) will be out in theatres all over Hong Kong and select theatres worldwide. Starring superstars Jay Chou (周杰倫) and Nicholas Tse (謝霆鋒), the movie revolves around an international cop (Chou) that must find and capture his long lost brother (Tse).
Directed by Dante Lam (林超賢), recipient of the 2008 Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Director, the movie was filmed all over Asia and the Middle East in spots such as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, and Jordan. Both actors had a $150 million dollar insurance policy during filming, as well as 20 bodyguards for protection.
In a recent interview with Oriental Daily, Chou said that this could potentially be his last action movie ever. “I have to treasure life, this will be my last action movie.” This surprising statement likely stems from the fact that Chou himself did many of the stunts in the movie without a double. Any truth in his statement remains to be seen.
Judging from the trailer, this movie has the potential to be the first big hit of the new year.
