For a first car? I'd suggest an older Acura TL, they're pretty stylish looking without being too expensive. The first time you curb your G35 or IS250 is going to suck, go with a 'learner' car and when you get a few years of driving under your belt, take what you don't like about your current car and find a car that fulfills those things.
Spending a lot of money on your car impresses the dudes more than it does the girls. They tend to notice the money you spend on THEM more... Which you won't have much of if you're driving a luxury whip.

Ditch the whole luxury car idea, get a "basic and shitty Honda" and spend the remaining money to live on Res. Then you'll be "independent" because you're not living with your parents, you'll have time (which you'll need a lot of) to study for your undergrad-->med, your own car (without hassle for extra repairs since you'll be rarely driving it) and you'll be surrounded by girls (which you apparently want...) of your age.
Why do you need AWD? Just get a RSX Type-S, install a double-DIN deck with Navi and you're good to go. Relatively decent fuel economy, K20A2, leather, sunroof, lower maintenance costs (DIY) etc. That's a hell of a "reward" for just a high-school grad. Your real reward will be what you make of your education to come. If you want to go to med school, you'll be working your ass off so much just to get in, you won't have time to care about much else.

I can speak from experience when I say you should get something that is inexpensive and that you can learn on. I'm also 17 and my first car was a 2003 RSX that was around $7000. That car had leather, heated seats, sunroof, all those nice little features and everyone was impressed by it. Any car in decent shape is considered impressive for people our age. I got into numerous minor accidents simply due to recklessness and carelessness, the likes of which probably won't ever occur in the future when I mature.
I drive a 2012 Genesis Coupe now and I love it and I've learned from what I went through with the RSX. Because of what the RSX had to go through; I now drove with total and utter attention and take absolutely no risks. The Genesis was $30K and my parents bought it for me so I probably sound like a hypocrite. I understand how hard it is to refuse the generosity of parents especially at this age. I have yet to meet anyone who actually has refused such an offer from parents who are in a financial position to do so so don't feel bad about what people here are saying.
Basically the chances of you fucking up no matter how slim you may think are extremely high. People constantly compliment my driving ability yet I've screwed up many times simply due to the carelessness that comes with being 17 years old.
I'd suggest an RSX or a Civic Si or whatever Audi or BMW you can get for under $10,000. All these cares will drive well, impress people, and it won't be TOO bad if you fuck up on them.
Trust me nothing feels worse than even the most minor of collisions and I would've hated of they occurred in my new car..

I bought my RSX-S a few weeks ago with my money. Hate it and love it.
Gas hurts. Insurance is under my mom's name though, because of the 43% discount; it's a cheap risk. If I were you, I'd go for a cheaper car. Money is hard to find.
If i was in your position though, I'd choose a CSX-S or TSX and call it a day. Insurance will probably be around the same though as my RSX.
I have yet to have my car go under maintenance yet, so I will not know the feel of those prices, yet.
Just don't forget, your parents aren't young anymore, and they will need money; it would be wise to not spend their money.
Have you considered an Integra Type-R by any chance?

yes sir, ....i'm not born from a decent family.......you got me......
did i say whether buying your own car or getting a car from your parents mean you are a better person?
my point is that some people shouldnt come in here ......acting all self entitled, make a thread about and ask others which luxury car to buy with daddys money....
and when others suggest being a responsible adult getting a civic......calls civic a shitty car and not good enough for their standards......or too good to take the bus
that sounds alot more like bragging about dads cash, than asking for an honest opinion for a car

I'll chime in since I'm kind of in the same place.
I'm 18, currently in school.
I work full time atm, but starting in the summer, I'll be working probably 1-2 times a week to make way for uni.
I always wanted a car, but I never asked for one.
I was always looking through classifieds and cl.
My dad makes 50g a year with mortgages, bills and my schooling to pay for, and 50g is by no means a respectable income.
However he surprised me by buying me a new mazda3 that cost 25g last week.
All of my friends thought i was the luckiest kid in the world, and i honestly thought i was.
But then I did the math, and looked at my situation.
Mind you, it's a reliable, practical mazda, but it's costing me 270 a month on insurance with -10%, plus however much I use on gas.
I don't even drive to school when I have school at night, I use my u-pass.
My car has heated seats, bluetooth, decent sound system, etc and to be honest, I don't need any of it, and neither do you.
Sure I feel great for having my own car and the freedom to go anywhere I want, but really...I don't need one.
It's a FIRST CAR, it does NOT need to be luxurious nor does it need to be cool.
A FIRST CAR is meant to take you from point A to point B and maybe some trips in between. You should be grateful that you're getting a car at all.
It kills me knowings my dad puts in extra hours in the week just to make things work.
Heck I have a respectable amount of money in the bank but too be honest, having a car is going to drain my savings in the next year or two, which is why I don't plan on keeping this thing for the long run.
To be honest it pissed me off when you said Honda's are "shitty and basic" and the fact that you are debating which "luxury car" to get at 17.
Be happy that you're getting a car at all, and I hope you rethink your circumstances and whether a "luxury car" is what you really need.
Heck I would've been happy even with a 1993 corolla if that was the only thing I could afford, because I worked my ass off for it

that sounds alot more like bragging about dads cash, than asking for an honest opinion for a car | IMO if his dad is going to get him a car anyways it makes sense to make an informed decision. OP definitely picked the wrong forum to bash hondas haha, and the thread is just going to shit. He clearly has to learn a thing or two about RS...
To be fair to the OP, him and his family were looking at a certain class/budget of car, suggesting something like a used integra, regardless of whether he's paying for it out of his own pocket or not, should entitle the OP to some sort of resistance even though it makes much more economical sense.
But like everyone said, take public transit, I have a daily my parents got me and my own project car and I still take transit as much as possible, I often have work at 5AM in the morning so I don't have much of a choice there but I always bus/skytrain up to campus (partly due to ridiculous parking fees) Assuming you're going to university locally you'll probably have a u-pass, try to squeeze as much value as you can out of it, heck sometimes taking transit might be quicker. If I were you I might just try purely taking transit for the first term and hold off on buying a car, I'm guessing your family has a car or two that you can use when you really need it. My parents got me my car when I was in Gr 12 and back then I would drive it as much as possible, but now in my 2nd year of Uni it spends most of it's time parked on the street...

park of...actually MOST of the reason why I don't drive to school is because of the parking costs.
My U-pass costs half (i think) of what the parking pass costs, plus w.e gas I save.
And no chance of getting into an accident
Sure you have to wait in the cold for a bit and walk a few blocks home from the bus stop but come on, just that to save hundreds a month?

I just can't use the u-pass. Off work/home by 12-1am. Classes at 830 the next morning busing takes me over an hour.

Imo, OP should buy a car that's safe. To me, safety standards are more important than anything. With 25k, you should buy a newer car, or a car with better safety standard. Having a good sound system or navigation in your car isn't going to help you in an accident. Posted via RS Mobile |

Well. I was just asking for an honest opinion on it. I'm not trying to brag as you guys think....
Didn't expect this thread to "turn to shit".
I am actually thankful I am getting a car, but it seems that some people look at it in more of a jealous way.
But yeah I understand what you mean by getting from point a to point b, that's all I should be worrying about I guess, because honestly I know nothing about the life to come. Posted via RS Mobile |

Okay, look. I am sorry if I have offended or disrespected any of you.
I am not here to start fights or anything.
But its just rude how you guys are treating me like a douche just because I'm getting a car.
It's a lot more common than you guys may think nowadays.
I mean how much more "modest" can one get?
I'm replying normally but you all are taking it way differently.
I understand I shouldn't have said that about Hondas but seriously, I am not here to cause trouble. Posted via RS Mobile |

just buy a honda fit ...want something sporty ? get it in manual, save the rest for maintenance or snowtires.
you're 17, you don't need luxury, you're just gonna look like a douchebag pulling up in a lexus in to a parking lot for an interview while the person interviewing you is driving a kia
