Hi guys,
I am 17, and I am looking to buy my first car, and I am totally lost.
Looking for sort of an entry level luxury sedan like infiniti or lexus, but at the same time good on gas, insurance, maintenance, etc.
My dad's paying for it, his budget is around $20000-$25000.
But, I will have to pay for gas myself...
I am looking at 2007 infiniti g35s sedan, or 2007 lexus is250...
Are these cars good on gas, and cheap to maintain and insure, etc?
I need to be going to university next year, and I need a reliable car for it.
Please, what are your opinions on the G35S and IS250 as a first car?
Also, what are your suggestions on cars that fit this criteria?
Thanks!
Shit. I don't really know what is expensive or not for gas... What would you guys recommend then?
lets's be honest here...
Your Dad is paying for the car, but who will be paying for the associated coats with owning a vehicle and what will your income be when you're in school whether it be through a part time job or an allowance?
If you want cheap, you'd better settle for an econobox. $20-25k should cover anything around the Elantra/Civic/Focus/Mazda 3 level. Left Corollas out cause I found them underwhelming, even compared to the competition.
Any luxury sedan will burn your pocket =] Gas already hurts with an econobox.
it was so good to be born in the 90s...daddy buying everything.
If I were 17 again and have 25K to spend, here's my choice.
2006 R6
1st or 2nd gen Miata or Z3, something that the roof can be removed.
then a Japanese truck or VIP from the 90s, fuck luxury cars, it's for old people.
When you grow older, you will definitely regret you bought something that didn't bring you any joy
if you are going back and forth to school and for a bite to eat
this what it cost me and i have driven each of these cars
matrix ~ $15 per day in gas the medium 85
civic uses ~ $10 per day in gas on the cheapest
hybrid ~ less than $6 per day. $20 lasted me a whole week
now those are reasonable gas prices for practical cars.
range rover supercharged 4 days from full tank of 91 cost $135
viper cost $100 every 4 days full tank
escalade $30 per day. from point grey to north van and back
x5m $140 per week full tank(aunt bought it new 2011 and told me)
s550 ~$20 to use per day.
the thing is you could get a luxury car, but it would have to be a hybrid like a escalade hybrid or a lexus hybrid.
unless you have a good paying job driving a luxury car daily is stupid.
and the older you go with a car, the more gas it uses since the engine is not running at its best and uses more gas to go the mile.
also another problem with luxury and gas is that you have to use premium not because its better for the car, but because the compression to very high and lower octane gas burns too fast for the car + ethanol which is not very good. almost all luxury cars are big v8 and heavy.
so if i was you i would get a blu tech merc, hybrid, or a base model with the smallest engine like a challenger sxt.
gas + food + other shopping expenses could easily add up so think before you buy.
this is based off of my experience so it could be different for others.
for me i love cars and i work my ass off in something i like everyday after school. make 3k a month part time and i have insurance, car financing, gas, food, clothes i have to pay. and even though i make 3k i only have about 100-200 bucks of money i can save up. im also one of those guys that would live in a shack, eat baloney sandwich every day and have 10 cars
like to mod
like to look good
like to feel good
like to impress girls & friends
like to speed/drive fast
like to get a lot of attention
like to spend your parents money on gas/maintenance and other expenses
then you should get
Lexus IS
Acura TSX/TL
Honda S2000
Nissan 350Z
Infiniti G35
like to mod
like to look good
like to feel good
like to impress girls & friends
like to drive fast
like to get a lot of attention
like to spend your OWN money on gas/maintenance and other expenses
then you should get
Honda Civic
Acura CSX/RSX/DC5
Toyota Celica
Mazda 3
like to not mod
like to look good
like to feel good
like to impress nobody because technically the car isnt even yours
like to drive like a normal person
like to not get a lot of attention
like to spend your OWN money on gas/maintenance and other expenses
Honda Civic/Accord
Acura CSX
Nissan Altima
Toyota Matrix/Corolla
Mazda 3
get a 09/10 Accord coupe I4 and call it a day or 08/09 TSX.
both have luxury features
both are pretty good on gas
both look great
both will get you vaginas in college
both have considerably affordable insurance compared to g35 and is250
both have considerably cheaper maintenance.
lol jk, but if your dad's paying for it I personally love to drive the E90 3 series, something like a 328i will fit your budget, my dad had an x3 with a very similar but more powerful engine and it was very reliable. Also pretty good on gas, I imagine the 328i with RWD can do 11-12L/100km easily as the much heavier and more powerful/awd X3 did around 13.5L/100km.
I am going to school 4 days a week and mix between transit/driving, personally gas isn't much of a concern, how much driving do you plan on doing every week? I only use $20-25 tops every week which is pretty easy to budget for. If your dad is covering the insurance/maintenance I wouldn't be concerned about gas money unless you're burning through a tank of gas/week
assuming you'll prob get into the modding stage eventually, maybe look into something that will have parts to mod later in the years ?? 350z/370z/s2k/tl/tsx/G-coupe
i wish my mom bought me a 25k$ car
edit : and yes insurance is gonna rape you! my first car was a 2000 honda prelude, i paid 3100$ the first year with NO Collision. PREPARE THY ANUS
