Have been going to the Health + Fitness YWCA by the Bentall 5.

$50 + tax a month for the student plan, no contract/commitment. It's extremely expensive for me since I'm only there for the weight room and don't use the other amenities (swimming pool, sauna, classes, cardio machines). Weight room is extremely small, 1 bench, 1 squat rack and 2 extra barbells on the side. DB from 3-90 lbs and about 10-15 machines total. For me, it's the convenience that makes it worth it..

Don't worry, I am cancelling. I purposely went last night at 6 pm just to see what the traffic was like. It was brutal. A long lineup for the 3 free standing squat racks.

dat_steve 03-15-2016 09:55 AM

started going to the AF on knight since I moved (i used to go to false creek). rack/weight area seems to be almost always busy but everyone seems pretty courteous. a few more kids here on their phones taking vids of their bruhs' sick curlz (i didn't know people actually did that in public...guess it's a generational thing), but otherwise seems to be an alright spot.

the locker i had was fucked though, i was lucky another member came up to show me the how to open it (punch your code twice really fast and open the lock really really fast when you hear the buzz).

They need to cut down half of the cardio machines and stretching area for more squat racks. 3 free standing plus 2 in the personal training area is not enough.

Agreed.

Verdasco 03-15-2016 02:26 PM

they said that you can freeze the account for 6 months if you enroll for 1 year. basically paying for 6 years and freezing the remaining 6 months and cancelling after that.

asian guy named JK told me this so if he lied to me , i remember haha

the stretching area is fcking gross, all mat area with shoes allowed, dirty as hell... should be movable mats like steve nash

place has way way too much cardio. remove them for squat racks would be great.

Does anyone go to the Goodlife on North Road (or is this the burnaby one people keep saying not to sign up for)? Also considering going to one of the Anytime Fitness places, just not sure which ones are good for beginners.

Can you guys tell me how parking works at the burnaby Good Life? I really hope you don't have to pay for parking. Do gym go-ers get a parking pass? parking validated?

Anyone go to Anytime Fitness? I drove by the one near metrotown at around 2am and the lights were turned off. Is this location dead?

dat_steve 04-21-2016 03:34 PM

light might be triggered by motion. i know the false creek one is.

so yeah chances are it was dead at 2AM haha

metro Goodlife is really bad, too packed, a lot of people bad at putting away weights. The north road one is better, but not much better. I have been going around 6-7pm on weekdays and its busy but if you ask you can usually get a squat rack/bench by the time you finishing stretching.

The best gym is the one that gets you in it consistently.

I goto club16 and they regularly have beginner classes throughout the day. It's cheap, there are lots of locations, but that also means high volume of people. so it can get kind of gross at the end of the day. In the morning everything is clean and awesome.

Forgot to mention that they have free trials too, so you can give it a shot for free before joining as a member. Although, most gyms have free trials, so might as well give them all a shot.

Go to Britannia CC in Van, decent size and decent equipment for a CC and most importantly it's never that packed and due to distance it gets me going. No hotties, no juice monkeys, but really I'm there to do my shit not talk so no biggie. Added bonus It only costs me like $17/month so a no brainer.

Used to go Trout Lake but that place is a gong show.

Sorry didn't see this until now. I'm going with Anytime Fitness at Metro. Seems like a good place since I either go in the early morning or late at night.

I went to Club16 previously, did not have a good time with them. Which is why I excluded them from my list. But I think I've found the right gym for me (it's super close to home and 24hours).

Armind 05-06-2016 05:42 PM

Club 16 early in the AM :D

no worries. Do you mind if i ask how much you paid when you signed up? Key fob fee? Month by month or annual? Any cancelation fee?

Seriously considering the switch to Anytime Fitness New West

heads up for ppl interested, was at nash today trying out a trial, the rep told me there is a deal that ends tmrw as follows:

gold package(all locations except the downtown one) is 725 plus tax for 17 months. After the 17 months the price drops down to 200 per year.

Sounds pretty good as I'm at af and the 200 per year after the contract sounds pretty enticing

The deal ends May 13th, not sure what other info you need but just ring a location tomorrow and they will know about it. I was at the marine gateway location.
