Without U Pass its something like 30/month.

Wait, what?

I can get in free with my u-pass. fml.

I've been paying for nothing.

That's what they alway do.
I go to fleetwood rec $12 a year haha that's what's up
I liked that it had 5 benches before but they took out 3 to renovate but it's still fine, negatives all lot high school kids sitting on machines talking, not lifting

Club 16 in Coquitlam.

It's like $19/month (finace pays anyways lol)

tons of cardio machines...like shit tons
decent amount of DB's
two smith machines (don't use them)
two bench presses
only 1 squat rack (which is always busy)

no real area to do DL's so i do them either at the squat rack or at a bench press

$33/month as a student at hillcrest community center
you can get access to the pool, ice rink(need to pay rent for skates though) and gymnasium to play ball

really clean gym, quite new...
3-4 benches
lots of free weights
lots of cardio machines for a community center..
like 6 treadmills and 5 ellipticals.. 7 bikes
great for me because i mostly work on cardio
4 medicine balls... they provide jump ropes

gets pretty busy now a days since people are starting to hear about the new community center

Anyone here still go to Sport Central in Richmond? My pass at my community centre is about to expire I was considering Sport Central since its 24 hours and the cost is about the same even with the added fees. I drove past and the place doesn't look well maintained, does the outside pretty much match the inside?

Nvasion 05-01-2012 12:58 PM

sports central is good cuz its 24/7 but if you go during a busy time (4-7pm) its super busy and not worth it

It's a shit hole but you'll learn to love it. Tons of equipment, huge space, not bad imo.

I work 9-5 but I'm looking to get a pt job for the summer, so I'll probably stop by late at night.

Meh... guess it can't be any worse then a community centre gym full of high school kids that just stand around talking, or leave weights everywhere and expect their mom to clean it up. I'm just looking for a gym with more then two benches and a variety of free weights, I rarely use machines except for cables so I could care less if their always out of order. Thanks!

Fitness2000 on lougheed

i went to sports central fore 3-4 months a while ago. I went around 11pm - 12am and place was a shithole. Smells like shit and brown jerks everywhere who they think they are big (but they aint) and pinner hongers/fobs who wear flip flops :seriously:

if u still want to go to a community centre gym, go find an empty one that has updated equipment and is not located near any high school.

edit: hillcrest is surprisingly not as packed as i thought it would be in the recent times i went there. I go to creekside near science world as well but place is small but has two olympic platforms for DL and very very very few people was :alone: once with everything to myself at 6pm :lawl:

I go after 10:30pm and I'm the only brown guy there besides the 2 tamil curl bros who always roll in at 11:00-11:30, do nothing but curls, and leave.

The reason why SC smells like shit is a broken sewage line by the squat racks, next to the emergency exit there's an open sewage line. It's been like that since I started going there lol. On days that it rains it smells like shit otherwise its not so bad.

How busy does it usually get around that time you go, Dhillon?
Do they allow you to carry your gym bag with you, or do you gotta use a locker?

infin8 05-05-2012 03:06 AM

$12 gym pass to all rec centers in surrey.

I usually go to the fleetwood rec..sometimes guildford.

:)

RacingMetro92 05-05-2012 11:49 AM

How do you qualify for the $12 gym pass?

Phozy 05-05-2012 12:08 PM

always carry bag w/ all my shit in it, says no gym bags but like most of the other rules no one really cares

its dead, i rarely wait for a machine. Most of the exercises I do are in the rack or on a bench though, so I generally dont gotta wait too long

Marioo1991 05-29-2012 05:20 PM

Used to go to Golds @ Gilmore, but they gave me my old rate at fitness world so been going there since they opened but thinking of switching back cuz its so damn busy and parking is a bitch

instantneedles 05-29-2012 09:31 PM

I love it. Usually not too busy and fair amount of parking. Enough equipment to keep the morons off of my squat racks.
The close location to my home makes the $40-something per month worth while.

RCubed 05-29-2012 10:21 PM

We go to fit U on No5.. i think its called Richmond sports centre now..
Its not bad because they also have basketball and squash courts, equipment are always everywhere though.. people just dont pick up after themselves.

Meowjin 05-29-2012 11:41 PM

Wow surrey has it good.

All the community center gyms in richmond are either packed, or too small or just lack amenities.

I use to work out at the oval, but after I lost the motivation to hit the gym and cancelled my membership back in january. Now that I'm motivated again, I signed up for thompson.

I loved the ymca at langara (pool, had everything I need for working out) but I ran into too many issues

1) distance
2) Size
3) kids
4) marpole jacks

Why can't I just have a nice sized gym, with everything and a god damn pool that doesn't have clueless people walking around doing shit.

I'm sorry, but I know gym's are there to make money, but I borderline feel like it's such a profitable business that most owners don't care simply becuase once the initial costs are in, you never have to upgrade the shit.

But I hate hate hate the idea of paying 50 dollars a month (I have to do monthly, it may be cheaper to do long term, but my money is going elsewhere at the moment, and I wont be financially free till september)

The worst part is, there is no discount for low income/students and if I want to go to another gym in the community, I have to pay 1 dollar.

Why?!?!?!

MeowMeow 05-29-2012 11:55 PM

^ I used to go to Thompson
I liked that gym because it was cleaner than southarm. But I hated the fact it was always packed and i always running into people I knew (like awkward ones)
