strike66 08-02-2012 10:14 PM

anyone been to fitness 2000 in burnaby? goods and bads?

BinsentoW 08-02-2012 10:26 PM

Ive gotten the 1 year pass for $100 before there, so i know what its like.
Im doing madcow 5x5, so almost all I need is a rack and those super rare 2.5-10 lb plates.
If you see some asian guy in sweats and a white t at night, hogging lots of small plates at the squat rack, thats probably me.

I use to go there. It's a really nice gym. Has a pool and steam room too. All the equipment is fairly new and the staff is friendly.

yeah interested to know the price as I will be moving to that area and looking for a gym. Not too keen on the Steve Nash or Goodlife on North Road.

Does it get as busy at fitness 2000 compared to those places during peak hours?

BinsentoW 08-03-2012 05:13 PM

Well, sc is worse than before. Not even enough bars to go around.
I had to lug mine around doing squats, then bench, then rows

I paid around 40 a month. IMO it doesnt get as busy as the other places. I never really waited for anything during peak hours. I think u can try it for a free.

dvdjels 08-05-2012 04:04 PM

^that and also don't like how they have boarded up the bumper plate area. The place looks so much smaller all of a sudden

mr_chin 08-05-2012 05:47 PM

can anyone recommend a nice gym with a swimming pool that is included in the monthly fee?

also not so crowded?

instantneedles 08-05-2012 09:11 PM

^where are you located? you willing to drive a distance to go to the gym?

most community centres have a double pool/gym access with the passes you buy with them.

instantneedles 08-05-2012 10:05 PM

btw, heard they have 160lb dumbbells @ sportscentral... lol that's like a canadian metroflex gym

i live near the superstore on grandview and rupert. somewhere close would be nice, but i don't mind driving.

ps - 24/7 would be nice too.

you're right, but not many are working or secure lol

i had a plate from the 117 db drop off and then the dumbbell just fell apart after that. I almost got killed...

ApePee2 08-14-2012 11:20 AM

Had membership to both YMCA n fitness world. Looking for a new alternative in the surrey area. Any recommendations ?

mr_chin 08-14-2012 04:57 PM

went to fitness world today and signed up for a 12 month membership. total was a little less than $700 in 3 payments. after walking out i realize, that is quite expensive. i have 10 days to cancel for a full refund, which i think i'll cancel at 8 days seeing that fitness 2000 has 6 months for $199. all i'm looking for is a gym with a pool.

Richmond Oval!

van_city23 08-19-2012 07:27 PM

I checked out elevation fitness in surrey a couple days ago. One of the nicest/practical/useful gyms I have been to in a long time. Haven't ever been to the oval though.
