Amazing what a human being can do.

Nightwalker 01-20-2012 07:22 AM

I've heard kids pick up sign faster than vocal language, a few relatives have taught their kid basic sign before they could talk.

humans probably used hand signals first before they could communicate verbally.

Children can learn to sign well before they learn to speak because they develop coordination in their hands first and have the capacity to understand langauge before they can produce it verbally.

We taught my daughter very basic sign language when she was less then a year because she had chronic ear trouble and we needed to give her away to communicate when she was in pain when she wasn't able to use words yet. It sorta grew into teaching her how to ask for things, say thank you and such. It is actually really good to do especially if your child has multiple caregivers.

Rather touching.

What I find funny in this thread is how when someone posts something that has already been posted in another RS section,
everyone usually fails the poster and calls it a repost.

Then when TOS'd points it out as a repost, he gets failed for it.

:lol

Both of my kids could sign before they could talk. Sign #1 finger on tip of the nose = wet diaper, sign #2 fingers pinching the nose = poopy diaper. I swear both of them could inform us of their dilemma lol @ 1 yr old. Of course there was the rare conflicting sign like tapping the tip of the nose with imtermittent pinching meaning nuclear war was going on in the huggies.......summary: Kid's can communicate well before then can talk.
