Roadtrip to Calgary

Hey guys, my friends and I are planning a roadtrip to Calgary and stay for a few days... Is it fun to go there? Is it expensive compare to Vancouver?

I'm open to suggestions.

P.S. OR is it better to go to states?

What's wrong with going to calgary at this time?

I talked to my friend who lives in Calgary the other day, at that time it was -59 with wind chill.

Absolutely nothing.

Highly recommended!

Definitely a popular vacation getaway this time of year. You won't regret it! :)

Why do you always troll me like this? :okay:

I agree with dukes, lovely time to vacation in Calgary.
I suggest a scenic drive through the coquihalla. This time of year all seasons should easily get you through there.
Have fun in Calgary!

^ You're wrong. Summers are adequate, as long as you have chains on.:jiggy:

It felt like -49 with windchill earlier in the week, in the midst of a cold snap. Ambient temperature was -35. Mind you, this was in the middle of the night. This week is supposed to average +2, and overall we've had a really mild winter.

Still, outside of an awesome ski trip or family, there isn't much to do in this city. Not terrible, but nothing spectacular other than proximity to great mountains.

Wow, crazy temperature swing.

Since this thread is such an epic failure, I'm jacking it..

Would a road trip to Calgary for the stampede be worthwhile, I'm considering doing that this year.

Everybody who I know from Vancouver has enjoyed their road trip to Calgary for the Stampede but I still insist Santofu goes during this season. It's peak travel season for Calgary!

Don't forget free pancakes and sausages in the morning

The best part is when your alternator dies, and your stranded in the mountain, no where near civilization, in the middle of the night and have a tow truck driver pick you up 6 hours later. While waiting for 6 hours, your hoping an 18 wheeler doesn't slam in behind you. Then after they fix the alternator, your driving up some more mountains, and you blow a head gasket. Wait another 6 hours for a tow truck driver, and finally give up, and tell them to tow you home. LOL That's the sweetest part of having a road trip during fantastic weather. Also note that you could also die from hyperthermia when weather is over -40 and your car dies and your stranded long enough.

^a little "dooms-day" attitude, eh?

LOL It's what happened to me........... worst luck ever! I had my trusty flash light and blanket my mom packed for me before I left. I would have gotten owned! Also if I had a wind mobile, chatr or moblicity cell phone, I would have been fucked!

Most people don't even think about/remember to change their accessory belts.

-35 degrees celsius and all of a sudden that old belts getting mighty brittle. Snap = GG lol.

I'd do it in this cold, but only in a vehicle I maintain ... god knows the maintenance that goes on with rental vehicles.

Also road trip to calgary in the summer is beautiful. Make sure to pack a good camera and have a cooler full of cold drinks :) Tons of speed traps though

i've done the calgary road trip tduring stampede.. seriously, go to Cali. gas, is cheaper, spending is cheaper. stampede is just like pne with cow boy hats.

the highways during winter is shit.. nothing more sexier than being stuck (or ur gf stuck) inside her car while u're outside putting on chains or worse yet, even with 4X4,you have to pull over to the side cause the roads aren't plowed.

Stampede is at least 2-3 times bigger than PNE for rides alone, not to mention the shows and exhibitions that are there. Plus the whole city gets into it. Free breakfasts every day, the whole city is in a partying mood, and bars and clubs are at their best.

6793026 02-11-2012 08:01 PM

yes. I agree, I used to host the free pan cake breakfasts, provide all the free booze my clients and drink from 10 AM and take them to all the places they want to go. The city shuts down for 2 weeks... but all in all, it's a bigger PNE with people (chicks) in cowboy hats. Yes, I landed on 2 young 17 yr old at Nashville North but meh.. nothing special

It's like telling me Edmonton mall is 10 times bigger than Metrotown with an indoor "theme" park, but it's still a gay ass mall and really not worthy.

I'm part of the small minority that would actually go for the rodeo events, pancakes and partying is just an added bonus.

AlexT1 02-16-2012 04:05 PM

HAHAHAHA, calgari probably is the worst place to go, especially in winter
