Are Z's equipped with LSD? I could buy loss of traction if not.
Even then though, with RWD torque should have been relatively evenly split in a straight line.

Two cars pacing each other on a two lane freeway, no traffic in front, chase car video taping........yup they were going to race. A car downshifting on the highway won't cause it to swerve off the road, but an inexperienced driver with a high power car in less than ideal conditions downshifting and accelerating hard could cause the car to react badly.
