Lol at everyone saying save your money or wait for a turbo model. First off, there is not going to be a turbo model. Toyota AND Subaru have both publicly made that clear. Secondly, no one "needs" more than 200hp. These cars are getting such rave reviews from everyone proving that HP is not everything.

My advice, wait until the first few come out.. see what the real world experience/reviews are from people on the new FRS forums and them make a decision. Also, there is not Toyota version in Canada BTW. Only Scion and Suby.

For people asking for more power, aren't we going into Nissan 370z's price range? Like someone said earlier, this is a more manly and practical Miata. I can't afford a new Z right now so this is a nice alternative. I'm just wondering if it'll be priced too close to a WRX.

Very unlikely.. if you look at the power train concepts that were at auto shows last year.. and the fact that Toyota designed the transmission for both coupes. If Subaru does it, they would have to ship the engine forward and redesigned basically their own drivetrain.

If always depends on how much work needs to be done. I don't think so, because just the front structure will have to change. Remember shifting the engine closer to the front have to change the crash structure etc.

Commonality is actually quite important when it comes to production.. eg the Genesis coupe / sedan the difference is only 2 extra tabs they have to take out.. then viola they get a sedan front cradle and a couple cradle.

ah. point taken.

but, an awd BRZ would make it a class of its own.. only coupe i can think of thats similar would be 3 series awd coupes (not sure if they'll come out with new ones) and the audi A5 quattro... (both different class of cars....)

I think the issue is Subaru has to get away from AWD / Rally heritage in order to meet CAFE. BRZ is the first step for them to do that but still keep its sporty image intact while under its Toyota overlords.

As for its Rally heritage, WRC has downsized cars.. basically Subaru's heritage is relevant as Group B wins for Ford and Audi today. Time to move on. Even if Subaru builds it, there is just no one / series to compete with.

I want to grab this car as well but I will be waiting to see what common problems it has as a DD vehicle.
Only thing is that the stock compression is pretty high so it won't be able to handle much boost out of the box.

Checked this thing out in Person at the Toronto autoshow over the weekend. I must say, looks way better in person than the pictures.

WR Cars have downsized from Class C to Class B cars. That's why Ford has the Fiesta, and VW has the Polo for WR races now. I think there is a rumor floating around that the WRX will be a standalone product (no longer part of the Impreza line) to compete in WR races.

Though technically the downsize makes no real difference as current class B cars are the same size as class C cars from 10 years ago, the GC8 and the Fiesta are roughly the same size in exterior dimensions, widening of body for racing notwithstanding.

I'm waiting for the BR-Z too, but I feel that we are going to get ripped.
