Need help picking out a bench Just went to Fitness Town and bought an elliptical machine for the wife, and decided to buy some weights (Powerblocks) and a bench so I could do some light workout at home too. I ended up buying a Hoist 4167 bench: http://www.fitnesstown.ca/i/59X_2.jpg Only thing I don't like about it, is that it doesn't have a decline position. They also had a Hoist 4145 available, but the incline only goes up to 65 degrees (I prefer a little straighter for shoulder, but is 65 degrees okay for shoulder exercises?) and the footpegs for the decline don't look very comfy. Also, the seat doesn't fold flat so it's angled for flat bench. http://www.fitnesstown.ca/i/57X_2.jpg Fitness Depot has this Northern Lights bench available, would this be a better altnernative? Not sure of the quality of Northern Lights? I've heard Hoist is pretty good http://shop.fitnessdepot.ca/Assets/P...ages/NLFID.jpg |
i dunno whats available from a fitness store or what anything costs but i would get something like this http://www.paramountfitness.com/stre...0h/xfw6700.jpg goes to i think -15* to 85* and has an adjustable seat angle as well. obviously being paramounts commercial line that one is going to be a little more money but i dont see why it would be a design that isnt copied in a home-gym price range. it really doesnt get any simpler. |
^Yes, that would be ideal, but I haven't found anything like that yet (although that bench doesn't look like it does decline - only flat?). If anybody finds one for less than $350, please post up where! TIA! :) Costco has this one for cheap, but doesn't look very sturdy. Costco - Marcy® SB 510 Multipurpose Adjustable Bench |
Dude go on craigslist, don't buy new! Lots of people get super gung ho about the gym after watching 300/spartacus/the warrior/rocky without even lifting and buy top end shit, then they never use it and try to flip it on CL Like new gym quality weight set, rack, bench, mat Powertec half rack with bench and olympic weight Bowflex Weight Bench weight bench (flat or incline) Powertec bench, Squat and Weight Rack with rubber coated weights and the list of searches: vancouver, BC all for sale / wanted classifieds "weight bench" - craigslist Just stay away from the benches that have a leg curl extension on the end, they're almost always shit, and they're rickety as hell. I have one, I used it for a month and then it started to break down. Also avoid benches that fold up, also crap lol. Try to get something as simple as possible. Btw if youre gonna try to bargain, go there and bargain. Don't give offers via email/phone people won't take you seriously. A lot of them say "no parting out" but when crap doesn't sell after a few weeks they'll part out |
my gym actually has one of them. it does goto about 10 or 15* decline and sometimes i stack a couple plates under the end of it to get more decline. |
Flaman Fitness Bowflex Adjustable Bench 5.1 Series - Benches - Strength Flaman Fitness Progression Fitness US07 FID Bench - Benches - Strength Great Life Fitness Store - Buy Fitness Equipment Online - Surrey, Vancouver, Langley area, BC, CANADA Yukon FIB-300 Flat Incline Bench – Canada’s Fitness Superstore for Gym Equipment just did a quick search of the local fitness chains. that 3rd one might be worth a look. that first one, dhillon09 posted the same one but used for less than half the price |
in my opinion just buy a flat bench - no inclines, declines, flux capacitors etc. the reason? for most cases they're pointless. a good solid flat bench would run you a couple hundred bucks at full blown retail and you could do everything off of it. ie: chest - dumbbell presses and flys. shoulders: sit on the edge and do your presses without a back support - this will improve your core strength as well. other shoulder exercises would be laterals and front raises. decline is the most useless exercise out there and is generally done by people who cant bench a high enough number in their own mind and do decline to feel stronger. inclines have merit but from what your describing you would be fine without doing the movement. trust me my chest/bench day i concentrate on barbell only on the flat bench. no inclines or declines. i will incorporate dumbbell presses into the routine as well but again only need a flat bench for that. you will get stronger and develop a thicker chest by sticking to the basics than some gimicky do it all bench. of course that's just my opinion tho. |
