i'm late to the party but i'll say this:
i've worked in the automall and if i had ever rolled a brand new car into the delivery bay in that horrid condition the amount of anal raping i would have received would have been comparable to that of a pornstar.
hell, even a few drips of water trickling down from the grill was NOT acceptable. even when it rained, customers would ask us to dry it off before accepting delivery and we obliged every time because we had nothing to hide.
there seems to be this lingering generation of salesman/managers who think they are invincible; who doubt the power of the internet and social media. Wake. The. Fuck. Up.
PS: best solution is to trade for a new car. i would accept nothing less than that. you paid for new, you should get new. end of story. it's not rocket science Richmond Subaru.

PS: best solution is to trade for a new car. i would accept nothing less than that. you paid for new, you should get new. end of story. it's not rocket science Richmond Subaru. | I've been working at the automall for around two years now, and yes. its true that if the customer complains then you must rectify it. But honestly.. there have been many times where i've been approached, as a lot guy from my sales manager, to just take a car from our compound and just wash it "to the best of my ability", even though the car has never been detailed.
-bird shit on the top eating away at the paint? "out of sight out of mind".
-heavy scratches on driver side quarter panel? "dont dry that portion of the car off so the water makes it more difficult to see the damage".
-damage on rear bumper? "put the plate over it...nice! it covers it, leave it like that." all by my sales managers or by the sales staff.
as well, we arent even supplied with hand mitts. only the long brushes. therefore your new pristine $80,000 car will definitely come with tiny visible scratches. when i asked the sales managers what happens if the customer figures out that the car is not in the best condition that a new car should be at, i'm told to "leave it alone, once they drive off the lot its their problem." and thats just one of the many things that i know dealerships do. the list goes on and on.
honestly, i've lost all respect i had before for dealerships, planning on leaving very soon. sick of this shit. they will cut corners when you let them. 80% of the people who this has happened to dont notice it, who would expect a dealership to stoop this low? the dealership will only do something about it if the customer "complains" about it enough.
sack up and get a new ride bro. you deserve nothing less.
edit: just to help increase google hits

I have not been speaking with the damn GM, he's only told me to go in on Monday.
I've also been contacted by Jalopnik, we'll see where it goes from here.

The way Richmond Subaru has tried to make it sound was that he is in constant contact with you and that you're just finishing things up. |

I think that everyone should have Linda Steele and Olsen from Olsen on your side on their e-mails and the number of a good lawyer and the BBB on speed dial.
I have never been satisfied with any dealership that I have dealt with but I always to hit in the nut sack from their terrible customer service.

You should post a rebuke underneath their post.
I think it will be up to Subaru Canada to buy back the car, probably won't be the dealership.
The thing is if the car is bought back and it went through a repaint, since it is not an ICBC claim; it will not be on any Carproof / carfax database.. so when the dust settles.. the OP might want to let us know the VIN so we all know not to pay retail value for it.
It sounds like the detailer was learning how to use wool pads (rather than foam) and burnt the paint as the result.
As for comments about "they should have known" etc.. It is human instinct to try to contain / cover up screwups. I think this example shows the dealership organisation has a few glaring faults especially their PR department. Quote:

Any damages over $2000, you have to declare it (Although with the way this dealership seems to run things, I doubt they would)

I thought that is only through insurance claims that you have to declare it. I highly doubt they will be going through any insurance company for this. Quote:

If the dealership claimed it under insurance, then yes, it would show up on various reports. But if they do it in-house and eat the cost, there's no record of the car being repainted.
