from what ive been reading on dpreview etc
a lot of people who are interested seem to only be wanting (or are) picking the 808 up to use strictly as a pocket snapper and are justifying the price over say a Canon S100 because they'll get to surf the web and play games
I know this will be the last Symbian phone Im getting since it looks like Nokia isn't going to be releasing anything awesome after this (sure there will be other devices but not a feature rich/camera king) and will be getting an Android of some sort
the 808 should tide me over for quite some time if not ill just pick up another device and keep this as my cam
That's not exactly a great comparison. Let's software interpolate these images from other cameras to compare. Obviously the image quality is gonna degrade. That aside the native image quality is still pretty Damn good.
I just saw the screen resolution. Why is it so low?? Put in an awesome camera but a low resolution screen.
About the resolution lol yeah they should have doubled the resolution to make it 720p but Nokia got rid of most of their Symbian techs sent the remainder to Accenture to deal with updating the OS and then Accenture laid off like 80% of them
So i guess they don't care/too lazy to do much for it its not like its not possible since some japanese symbian phones have 1024x??? resolution so the OS can deal with it
Hopefully it doesn't look too bad people do say the screen looks great
^^ yeah that defintely looks like a more realisitc comparison to the MKIII. But damn beating out some Sony DSLR's is awesome. Too bad I'm not a Nokia user
I can imagine the screem being a bit pixely. Because on a 4" android with 800x480 it's already pushing it. I guess time will tell. I hear it's coming stateside soon too which is a plus.
The Nokia 808 PureView is getting a lot of attention - if nothing else, the Finns have sparked people's curiosity to unprecedented levels. This review is just the latest in a series of articles we've posted to try and cover every aspect of the most impressive cameraphone we've ever seen.
The camera is of course the single most prominent feature of the 808 - both in terms of physical appearance and level of interest. It beats every other phone camera at still photography and the flexibility offered by the camcorder is unmatched. And don't forget the zoom - the zoom alone is reason enough to want to buy one.
In good light you can stand next to someone with a DSLR and keep your chin up. And with its xenon flash, the PureView comes out smiling even in most low-light scenarios.
The Symbian experience is light years ahead of what it was on the 5800 XpressMusic. The OS has caught up to the competition with the numerous UI and usability updates, and it's lightweight enough so even the 1.3GHz single-core processor of old architecture delivers a fast, fluid experience.
There are a couple of things to consider though. Symbian is good now, but users have already moved on and the developers followed (not that devs ever got too enthusiastic about it). Apps are the single most important feature of a smartphone ecosystem today and Symbian is lagging behind in that department with no chances to catch up.
The other issue is physical dimensions - the 808 PureView is very thick and quite heavy, probably more so than many people are willing to accept.
Still, back in the day, the Nokia N8 sold 4 million units in under a year, so it's not impossible for the 808 PureView become one of the company's bestsellers, even with all those Lumias around.

The Nokia 808 PureView will have a prominent place in the Nokia Hall of Fame. We're likely to see a ton of short films and music videos shot with the 808 (like we did with the N8), which will keep the phone in the public eye.
So hats off to the Finns - there are no two ways about it. With the Microsoft deal a gamble that's yet to pay off, with plenty of people unable to get over the way MeeGo was treated, with a market obsessed with software and apps, you'd think they'd have other things on their mind than developing what's probably the most revolutionary technology this industry has seen for quite some time. Madness? This is Nokia.
even with the 808s rich recording the NEX-7 beats it imo although the reviewer and commenters say the 80 is better
I finally found a place with the 808 in stock, Amazon.fr, it cost me $755 but I couldn't wait any longer for the other places to get them in or else it would have been $650 from Amazon.de (they had a pre-order special)
main Con of the 808 for the reviewer is Highlight Clipping, I've actually noticed this in images I've taken but I figured it was simply me not knowing how to use the camera properly.. guess not
2nd con is no built-in hdr, although there is bracketing and you can download an hdr app
Side note here's a macro shot some guy just uploaded to the flickr 808 group using an additional macro/close-up lens

For those Interested here's a browser comparison between the Iphone 5 and the 808 Pureview I suggest watching at least 2 website loadings and not just the first
For people who bitch about how god awful the browser is and they just can't use it whatsoever.... makes you wonder if there's any mobile browser they're willing to use...
Belle FP2 improves the browser further btw (he doesn't have it installed)
