hotjoint 03-07-2012 12:55 PM

Meh nothing crazy IMO. I'll wait till the 5th or 6th gen ipad before upgrading my Ipad first gen.

HonestTea 03-07-2012 01:04 PM

The new iPad will be available on March 16 in the U.S., Canada, UK France, Germany Switzerland, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia.

That's a lot for the initial release..usually it's just US and some other country.

Hehe 03-07-2012 01:24 PM

Pre-ordered 8...

All for flip... :fuckthatshit:

Acura604 03-07-2012 01:27 PM

meh..ordered 2. one for me..and one for flip. assuming shortage.

lowside67 03-07-2012 01:31 PM

Not an iPad 3 but pre-ordered a new Apple TV 3... can't wait!

twitchyzero 03-07-2012 01:38 PM

retina display on a 10" screen is serious upgrade...but i thought retina display was 326ppi...not 264.

edit: i guess it accounts for holding a tablet further for viewing.

I thought that's just a software update.
so technically you can get the current one and do a software update right now to get the Apple TV third gen features

Correction: Interface is updated with the 5.0 software but you won't get the new 1080p feature.

Harvey Specter 03-07-2012 02:25 PM

Finally ordered an ipad, the apple site kept crashing at checkout so I assume a lot of people are placing pre-orders.

StylinRed 03-07-2012 02:43 PM

read that its thicker and heavier than an ipad2 ?

c3m 03-07-2012 03:00 PM

^
Thickness:
iPad 2: 0.34 inch (8.8mm)
new iPad: 0.37 inch (9.4mm)

Weight (Wifi)
iPad 2: 1.33 pounds (601 grams)
new iPad: 1.44 pounds (652 grams)

3G / LTE new iPad 662 grams vs iPad 2 613 grams

willystyle 03-07-2012 03:51 PM

Looking at getting a new iPad, ipad 2 or 3?

SkippyLang 03-07-2012 03:59 PM

I don't think the product name is "the new iPad", rather they're just calling it "iPad" now and dropping the numbers. Thread should be called iPad 2012?

Verdasco 03-07-2012 04:08 PM

hmm never understood what a quad core GPU is (I know how a video card works with computers lol...) but quad core ? different technology i guess

twitchyzero 03-07-2012 04:41 PM

GTX 590M in SLI, probrem?

i think it has to due with cost/heat/battery consumption to go for more cores than higher frequency

Vale46Rossi 03-07-2012 05:01 PM

Screen looks great!

IMO, unless you can get an iPad2 with heavy discount (maybe 200 for mint condition).. I wouldn't get iPad2.

The iPad2 16GB is $100 less than the new iPad. And that $100 gives you a screen that's 4X the resolution, more graphic power, 1MP (plain simple) vs. 5MP (backlit, image stabilization, autofocus... so on)... and more... the value is way more than 100.

I don't get Apple strategy anymore. I thought it would be great if they discount iPad2 down to $200 (with 8GB maybe) and clears the competition in low-end tablets... but at $400... the new Asus tablets or even Kindle offers much much more than iPad2 for cheaper price.

I doubt it. iPad launches are different then iPhone launches. With iPhone people take a long time becasue they're doing a hardware upgrade or whatever and that can take 30-90 minutes a person. With the iPad, lineup should move fast since you just go in, buy it, and leave. Shouldn't take more then 5-10 minutes. I'm sure there will be enough stock for everyone who wants one. I don't know anyone who currently has an iPad1 or iPad2 wanting to upgrade to a iPad3.

Mr.HappySilp 03-07-2012 06:23 PM

LOL I wonder how many ppl will do this to the new iPad

I had the iPad 1. Sold it last week because I'm one of those people who are upgrading. The miniscule amount of memory on the 1st generation iPad was causing application crashes more often than I would like. The speed improvement alone is enough to justify the purchase. The Retina Display makes it even better.

Pre-ordered online, shipping to my workplace. By the time I get off work, I'm pretty sure the stock will be gone at the local Apple Store. Hope I get it on launch day!

Not going to happen.
Stores are opening everything iPad (possible other tablets as well) on return. That includes brand new sealed boxes.

SkinnyPupp 03-07-2012 08:41 PM

What I am curious about is, if they quadrupled the resolution of the screen, they would also need to quadruple the fillrate specs of the GPU. And should probably quadruple the RAM as well. Did they do that?

Hehe 03-07-2012 08:48 PM

Doubt that.

I don't think anything beyond 2D graphics would actually use the full resolution. From the experience of iPhone4, Apple would simply scale most of the stuff. Everything becomes crisper in a sense that they use more pixels to accomplish in the same area (in dimension, not pixels).
