Thanks guys! I think I'll go with what's comfortable dependent on the street like you guys mentioned.

Here are 2 more for you guys:
- Left turn lane: Don't go past the line if someone is already in front and there's no room. Question is, if there is room for 2 motorists, would you go up (ICBC may be left behind the line, but I know we don't need to wait for him/her)?

- Red light. Stop before crosswalk. If it's clear, do you inch out and turn right or stay there until green? Again, may leave ICBC behind.

At an intersection, only one vehicle (car/motorcycle) can occupy. According to ICBC, it doesn't matter if there's room for another vehicle, only one can occupy the intersection (for the left turn example). Rider will have to wait before the white line and wait for vehicle in front to complete the turn before moving into intersection :) I believe PRS's PDF addresses this quite well. Just follow the PDF and you'll do well.

After you clear the intersection and do your checks (shoulder + cyclist), you can make the right turn if the light is red unless there is a sign prohibiting right turns :)

Don't worry if ICBC gets left behind; if you're too far, they'll ask you to pull over :)

If icbc gets left behind it's their fault. If they ask you to turn left, and you go straight, it's still their fault! I actually mixed street and intersection up twice, and they didn't ding me for it. You'll do fine, just don't over think. Ride with confidence and show icbc that you won't hurt yourself nor other motorists. If you're really nervous, you should consider taking the mock road test.. it helps a lot. Gets you over the nervousness you may have, and they will help point out what you might want to work on.

Hi guys, I passed my road test this morning! :D

Just thought I'd share! Thanks for all the tips, etc.

Btw, does anyone know what the * (if anyone has them) are for next to your "Class" on your driver's license?

For example, my interim license says "Class: 56*"

My friend has his license that has 5*6** on it.

BillyBishop 09-22-2012 10:04 AM

The asterisk indicates restrictions on your licence

You have one restriction on your class 6, whereas your friend has one restriction on his class 5 and two on his 6.

The back of your licence should say which restrictions are in effect.

EDIT: maybe not so... just found my old yellow interim for my class 5 and it has two asterisks but no restrictions.

Yea, he has no restrictions (so can't quite explain the * and **). The only restriction I have is for glasses but never had a * when I had my class 5 license.

RabidRat 03-01-2013 08:57 AM

Jas, got your PM.

Haha guys I don't live in Vancouver anymore, someone else should take this over.

Just give them a call and say there are a bunch of you from Revscene.net who want to get a group sign-up going. Ask them what they can do for you in the way of a discount.

Worst case scenario, they'll give you the usual group discount rate. Best case scenario (ie like what we had for Round 1 of our 2012 group sign-up), they'll do a little better.

Then, if you're feeling up to it, continue to negotiate: ask if there's a number of people that need to sign up together to get an even bigger discount than what they just offered you.
