i also ditched spotify individual for a student plan since i dont listen to audiobooks.

Isn't that how you're supposed to do it? lol

The next level is to only cycle thru free promo trials. I've done 3 months free Apple, then 1 month of Amazon with Prime, Disney at $1.99/mo, pay for Netflix for a while waiting for the next promo. Repeat ad nauseam. LUL

If you have a newer TV (purchased mine almost a year ago now) opening the apps built into the TV often times has those promos built in as well.

So I managed to get 3 months free Apple TV with a new phone then cancelled and when I wanted to resubcribe used the promobuilt into the TV

i have the basic netflix plan with ads. it's a bit annoying sometimes but it's nowhere near as bad as youtube can be with their ads. sometimes you get an ad or two for 15s or 60s in the middle of a long show, and sometimes you don't. i heard that some people have experienced more ads than others, so it's possible that the frequency can change over time. if it gets unbearable i will just cancel it all.

i def got my $ worth from my box, but it's not perfect, gotta take the good with the bad. i still have a prime & netflix account. too easy to have it streamed through multiple devices at diff areas throughout.

the box is stationed at 1 of my tv's and while i've moved it around the house to diff TV's, it's usually stationed at just 1.

even though i have pretty fast internet, the box can lag at times, whether it's live TV or on demand, sometimes making it unwatchable. i'd say it's a good nice to have, got my parents one too, but they haven't cut the cable due to the reliablity factor, but great to supplement with existing services, unless you're OK with the shortfalls

My best friend's family was exactly that. Apparently, there was a rather large community of Polish Ukrainians in Vancouver, back when. I used to go over to his parents place in the Mount Pleasant area almost daily. Mom was always in the kitchen. We asians aren't into hugging, but the mom was like always happy to see me hugs and almost kissing............. I drew the line at that.Made great food. Mom wouldn't let me leave until I had a bowl or plate of something. A most welcoming place.

Dad was a cool guy. Always wanted to teach me a lesson in life. He was forever in his basement workshop tinkering.

Anyway....................

100% 1 unit per TV was the draw back.. I can't argue with that.
i bought another one for my basement for sure.

It does skip at times.. cause I guess the live TV (esp chinese channels) are live and doesn't route to proper datacenters fast enough I guess.
Don't get me started with time zone cause in Vancouver, you can't wait 'local' 6 pm news

GLOW 04-03-2025 10:06 AM

oh ya the live TV chinese shows are all toronto time which annoys the parents :lol

Toonie Tuesday at Safeway again. Two pieces of chicken for $2.00. Damn, the high school kids have taken over, hee hee.

EvoFire 04-08-2025 05:58 PM

So I was at Safeway today and checked it out. $2 chicken and $2 wedges.

whitev70r 04-08-2025 07:10 PM

This is the classic Toonie Tuesday, in this day and age, incredible. All the other chicken places that offered it couldn't anymore.

I was at Kingsway Safeway in East Van, they didn't have thigh for some reason, so they were giving 3 drumsticks for $2. Fine by me!

spoon.ek9 04-08-2025 08:18 PM

is this for a specific Safeway or all of them...?

whitev70r 04-08-2025 08:38 PM

I've gone to 2 different ones (in 2 weeks) and they both had it so I'm assuming all of them.

spoon.ek9 04-08-2025 08:44 PM

oh damn, I need to check this out then. wouldn't mind a banger of a deal like that once in awhile.

MG1 04-08-2025 09:43 PM

all Safeways every Tuesday

11:00 am to 5:00 pm until they run out, which they do by about 4:00 pm.

MG1 04-11-2025 08:15 AM

I'm a diabetic, so this would definitely kill me........... Surpee ®

For two days, it's 7-Eleven's BYOC (Bring your own cup). Any size container for one price. $2.49. April 11th and 12th.

I remember seeing this one chick walking up the street with a fucking bucket. It was a mini bucket, but wow.

Oh, receive 711 points, as well.

You have to be a member, of course. Just use the app.

Some of the larger 7-Elevens have the most amazing Slurpees.

whitev70r 04-11-2025 09:06 AM

^ yah, that's an easy hard pass for me ... frozen sugar flavoured ice. No thanks.

Has anyone been taking advantage of the $4.99 Wendy's Spicy Chicken sandwich? Not bad.
