| Mercedes and BMW CPOs
I was looking at BMW and Mercedes websites for their certified pre-owned series and find that their price is unbelievably inflated.
For example a 2008 BMW 528i with 40k km's listed on VMRCanada as having a fair retail market value of 27k and a wholesale price of 25k. BMW Canada is asking 38k for it.
I understand that you did a inspection on hit and tacked on a 2 year power-train warranty, but is it really worth a 11-13k premium? We talked to a sales and rep and they're being a hard-ass saying that being a CPO adds value to the car (which I can understand) because a lot has been done to it and the price cannot be budged. Really? you're charging 11k premium on a used car and you can't be fair and negotiate with it?
Anybody have any experience dealing with CPO's? Are BMW and Mercedes CPO's really that inflated in price or is it just the salesperson being play hardball with us? It is nice to have piece of mind, but forking out 11k for that is just ridiculous.

My dad bought a CPO BMW and we literally got a 100 dollar gift card and that's it. Discounts rarely exist in a BMW dealership. IMO its worth paying extra knowing that your driving with peace of mind

Well it depends on how you are paying for it.. leasing I think it is just less hassle to deal with CPO. If you want the absolutely lowest price, buy American? You can still get it serviced in the States.
There are plenty of BMW sales on this board, I am sure they will give you their best prices.

I'm probably gonna head down to Brian Jessel sometime this week and see what they have. I guess they sell too much to negotiate these days...
But the car sales environment is so hostile, the other day me and my parents were at a dealership and a sales lady told us to find her if we have questions and proceeded to help somebody else. So we were looking around and another guy approached us asking we had any questions and that lady quickly comes back and interrupts the sales guy telling him that she already helped us.
All the friction and territorial behaviors between salesmen really puts us in an uncomfortable buying environment

Don't forget to check out Autowest BMW! They often have good deals on CPO vehicles for sale.

I just recently purchase a cpo from auto west BMW. Aside from the extra warranty , cpo also replace worn parts, if it doesn't pass inspection. My car came with new tires. For cars like BMW I would rather pay a little bit extra for cpo than from other dealerships. Also after a week of purchasing the cpo I noticed my battery was low and I called Taylor the salesman who sold me the car, and they replaced it without charge.
Also I was gonna go to Brian jessel but they don't negotiate prices. Funny thing is after a few weeks if the car is still not sold then bj drops the price, but if they had negotiated with their customer they could have gotten that car off the lot. They like to drop prices on their terms and not the customers.
But at auto west was a different story we worked out a discount that was good for both parties, and it was a better car with lower km for a better price at auto west than the one I wanted at bj BMW.
Just giving you some facts from my experience so u can make some iinforsmative decision

Thanks guys! I'll probably check out AutoWest as well, funny enough, that place is so much more closer to where I live. But I still have the impression that their service is full of arrogant pricks since they originated from Richmond Auto mall (seriously, even their hyundai dealers think they are selling Maserati or something)

for a car to qualify being CPO, it goes thru a check list.
brakes cant be below a certain number, usually 50% or less, otherwise they get changed.
the price you are paying for a CPO is to make sure the car is up to standard before it is sold and offered to the public. a non CPO may mean some items arent taken care off. beside the big ticket items, and maintenance, usually a lot of suspension parts are taken care of.

i work on this lot.
basically non certified cars, with balance of factory warranty (if any left) without paying hefty premium on CPO price.
pretty clean cars, with no crazy collision history.
cars are eligible for optional 3rd party warranty if buyer chooses.
there is a reason for stiffer pricing lately: fewer cars are coming back from lease returns (goes for lots of manufacturers actually) so fewer cars of choice for inventory... that only means pricing goes up on used vehicles. fewer vehicles were leased at the beginning of 08 due to the meltdown... bmws are most commonly leased on 3 yr terms. pretty sure mercedes and audi are the on the same boat.
