I don't get it, if it's done through DNS why do you even need to register and pay the monthly fee? Do they do mac address / ip filtering or something when you sign up?

Unlock US is hands down the best. Super easy to set up too. If you are at home with a router, then you just have to reconfigure the router. No need to configure your PS3, Apple TV, computer, laptop, etc.

I'm guessing that IPs change periodically. If you have a HOSTS file that works for you today, it may not work tomorrow. These DNS services stay on top of it for the subscription fee.

Actually it is by ip...... Off their site..... Anyways anyone have any issues / lag when gaming on ps3?

"My ISP provides only dynamic IP addresses. Is this a problem? Last Updated: Mar 27, 2012 07:51PM EDT

Dynamic IP is not a problem. The only limitation of dynamic IP's is that you'll need to visit Unblock Us - unblock your favourite video and social websites every time it changes. Web browser will be forwarded there automatically when you trying to access Netflix, Hulu & other supported sites, but you need to remember about this check when you watch movies on Roku, gaming consoles and other "browserless" devices and applications."

Okay... I geeked out this evening, and figured out what you need to watch US content on Netflix without having to pay UnblockUS or some other DNS.

You'll need to modify your hosts file. If you have Windows, it's located in:
C: \windows\system32\drivers\etc

Just copy and paste these two lines to the end of the file:
74.207.242.213 movies.netflix.com
74.207.242.213 cbp-us.nccp.netflix.com

Not sure how long this'll work for, because Netflix could change the IPs.

No there is no latency or wait time for me, loads instantly.

Free version of Hotspot shield, and you have HD support? Sure I can stream US content, but it looks like YouTube in the eary 2000s. I think you're bullshitting, but if you have it, more power to you. A direct connect is better, though.

Nice work Presto!

I paid for unblock-us already, and I also set it up on my router so all my devices can access US netflix (netbook, HTPC, PC, MBP, etc).. it's a bit easier, and for $5.. why not. but good find!

I also like how I can transfer the unblock-us support to work and use pandora, and transfer it back when i get home

Unblock-US is great! It's really got value if you want to go to a lot of region-restricted sites. Heck, I just found out I can use Google Play. They give you storage for up to 20,000 songs, but you won't be able to purchase/download from the store unless you have a CC with an American billing address.

That scene looks like crap. It also just says buffering, and your HD icon isn't lit.

for ps3 just change your DNS primary and secondary servers , i got mine working again.

Go Network settings > Manual > DNS Settings > Primary DNS 69.111.95.106 Secondary DNS 206.214.214.28

Sometimes they dont work, if not try these

Primary: 69.111.95.106

Secondary; 206.214.214.28

Im using that one and it works fine, no lag.

Can't edit hosts file on ps3. You might be able to do it if you have root. If you have a DD-WRT, OpenWRT, or Tomato router, then you can modify the DNSMasq Additional Options to include the hosts for Netflix, or whatever.

See this page: Setup Local/Internal DNS with a DD-WRT Router

I added the following to my DNSMasq Additional Options:

address=/movies.netflix.com/74.207.242.213
address=/cbp-us.nccp.netflix.com/74.207.242.213

Pornmaster is looking for something like editing a hosts file.
That first IP looks like a subscriber DSL line, and it's currently not responding. The 2nd IP is from UnoTelly, which is like UnblockUS. You have to be authorized (ie signed-in), for it to work.

Unblock-Us is really the best solution. Especially if you set it up on your router so all devices can take advantage of it. $5 a month is really nothing. I bet you wouldn't even notice it missing from your piggy bank.

Not only that, it also works when you are away from home. Anyways, everything is on their website. Really easy to use.

Thanks for the info guys I thought id try out using tunlr first to see how it is the streams start at Medium/HD for the first few minutes and then ends up High/HD and I'm able to do this on 2 devices (dads pc and ps3) but they drop to Medium/HD on the PS3 and "not hd" on the comp might just be his internet connection though as my moms also using her Ipad and dads downloading

I have another question

How do i know if its connected to the US Netflix or Canadian one? (are the GUIs or webpages different in anyway?)
I'm a bit surprised at how sparse the selection seems to be so I wonder if Im actually connected to the Canadian one instead

^^^^ i have the same concern as im not knowledgeable about that at all.

the dns i have setup is only on the ps3 (i didnt set it up @ the router)

so the only info they'll be getting is the netflix account i suppose (no cc info used and the acct was setup prior to running their dns)

the pc connection was just made to test out running 2 streams its not going to stay running under their dns

Do a search on something that should be US only, like the Office, or my wife's current favorite: Ghost Whisperer.
