But instead, random ones like silver Passat, and white MR2 got pulled in....maybe no seatbelts?

The Passat had his turn indicator on early and was never flagged down, he's going into the parking lot. The white MR2 was pulled aside because it doesn't have plates and from what I could quickly see, no temp papers showing.

because you are operating a vehicle.

Caught these sneaky motherfuckers at this exact spot more than a few times over the last couple of months.

because i often use my phone as GPS... not sure if legal...

IT is only legal if you have set your destination BEFORE driving off in your car..
IT is illegal to use ANY device while operating a car.

If you must use a GPS, do so before driving... This does not mean at a stop light.. if you must do so, pull over to the side and use it...

Thanks. Re-watched it...yeah guess you can see the officer was staring at the MR2's rear/trunk at 01:37...

hmm.. that does throw a wrench into things. i don't think even device log when bluetooth was used or not (timestamps and all). maybe something in the pipeline for phone developers?

btw, some vehicles now have sms-reading capabilities in the in-dash systems. again, this is read-only and won't let you reply to it. it's good that manufacturers are making steps towards making things more "handsfree", but sadly this still makes the driver more distracted.

MG1 03-13-2012 12:47 AM

So will I get pulled over for staring at some chick's ass while driving?

It's not like I'm fapping while driving, LOLOLOLOLOL.

Cops remind me of that tv ad............"I can see you, Carl!"

so many rules! fuck, i'm going to dig around my house for one of those giant folded maps of BC and expand it while i'm near one of these cops.

might as well full on read a book while driving :lol

bingo,

thats why on sunny nice spring / summer days,

I go the speed limit and never touch my phone.

on rainy / windy / cold days, I know there will never be speed traps or any checks, because god forbid the cops get cold and wet.

resume speeding while on cell phone.

it seems like the role and job of a police officer has changed significantly over the last decade, instead of a whole presinct filled up with detectives and guys that deal with drug trafficers and muggers,

theres only a handfull of detectives, and the mass majority are all traffic cops.

im not saying they arent doing their job, but the legislation to have so many damn traffic cops everywhere must be coming from somewhere,

in retrospect, maybe I should be thinking of a career change, since il most likely just become a traffic cop and sit at a light for 8 hours, on a nice bright sunny say, with an nice cold coke in my hand, pointing at people with no seatbelts and texting, all day long. sounds nice.

and on the rainy days they all revert to their cave because they dont like getting wet.

Even though I check my cellphone while waiting for the light to turn green, and I gotta admit, its no really dangerous when your car is stopped, however, reading text or sending them while your car is moving, that is dangerous, and its good that police are doing something about it to make the road safer. I have a car, I do drive most of the time, but I still walk on the street, so of course I want the road to be safer not only for myself and my family and the people I care about. Not only that, it prob prevent a lot of car accidents where ICBC wouldn't have to raise the insurance $$$ :bigthumb:

thinking back...ya all the speed traps ive been through were on nice sunny days. i can't recall a time when they were standing in the rain/snow.

could it be that they think people are more inclined to speed on nice days?

I never quite understand the point of these threads. In my opinion, if you're too stupid to talk on your phone, text or not wear a belt... you deserve a ticket.

It's really a hazard to be setting up traps like that during slick road conditions and poor visibility. Having officers run into the roads under those conditions would be a hazard to the officer and could cause more accidents from sudden/late breaking under poor visibility and slick stopping road conditions.

mmmk 03-13-2012 01:23 PM

I saw an Audi get pulled over by an officer doing cell phone checks at Willingdon & Lougheed.

The point of these threads are to let the community know that cops are actively working to prevent accidents on the road.
I'm sure a few people on RS are now aware of this and have stopped txting and driving.

Your post doesn't contribute at all :rukidding:

They're sure preventing a lot of accidents from happening at that intersection...

Like this video doesn't make me feel any safer on the road, because the douchebag who's texting/phoning while sailing down the highway at 100km/h is still not getting caught.

its not dangerous when your car is stopped at the red light, but there have been numerous times when I have to honk at someone because they are texting or playing with their phone and they dont start driving when the light turns green again.

I'm glad the cops are doing this, so many people cant drive as it is in this city, you hit the nail on the head with preventing car accidents and preventing ICBC from raising insurance money.

I agree,

but as someone whose experienced an accident because the other driver was talking/texting, It saves me time and hassle when someone messes up and I have to go through ICBC to fix minor damages, this also helps decrease insurance premiums.

Can't you still get a ticket for "distracted driving?"

don't they ticket people who are reading while driving, or putting on makeup?
