Scammer getting scammed..... By ME.

Ok boys and girls. Gather round.

I nearly lost my Evo 8 MR, to this guy. So i took it personally. Luckily I caught on, and not a moment to soon.

It is a very long read, but epic non-the-less.

And yes the police have been involved and doing what they can in his home town, But since i was not a real victim ( actually loosing my car ) they will not pay for my travels and testify as a witness :(. So im doing my part . AWARENESS.

Enjoy.

Too complicated, sorry, I don't the time to read all, but I'm glad you didn't get scammed

Psykopathik 03-13-2012 10:03 AM

simple. only sell your car face to face. at least you can fuck them up for trying to scam you. good detective work tho :fullofwin:

er, how did he get scammed, did i miss something? it was a long read.

thats some crazy CSI shit there son.

magnify that bolt on the license plate frame. ok enhance. See the reflection? enhance again. there's a KFC in the background behind the camera man. enhance again. its says "Toonie Tuesday at KFC". Fuck it Lets get some fried chicken :D

Datsun 03-13-2012 10:09 AM

Strong detective work. Thanks for the awareness (the misc terms are unintentional...)

up until 1 hour ago, he was lead to believe my evo was being shipped and he was supposed to pick it up at the winnipeg lot, if he did arrive there police were going to be called etc...

meanwhile he was sending me pictures from another phone number acting like the truck driver. saying, your car is in vancouver, heres a picture. im ready to unload it.. etc..

murd0c 03-13-2012 10:15 AM

Why would you even think of doing this deal in the first place?

lowside67 03-13-2012 10:20 AM

I feel like your "scam" is not nearly as epic as you seem to think it is... in the end, you have wasted a bunch of your own time, nearly lost your own car and money, and for what? So you might waste his time too? Good job. It's unlikely that the police are going to be able to do anything serious anyways.

ah so you set up the sting :)

EDIT: however if you had tricked him into paying for a bunch of expenses, that would be epic.

Gridlock 03-13-2012 10:34 AM

He'd have some tough questions to answer if anyone asked them, but all he needs to do is say that he was conducting a car purchase. Yeah, its obvious what he was trying to do, but here and now, all he has is a failed car purchase. You didn't lose money or a car, so really there may be intent to commit fraud, but no actual fraud.

Berzerker 03-13-2012 10:36 AM

First OP's GTR get's stolen under very suspicious circumstances. THEN OP buys Badass EVO with Payout from GTR theft. Now OP is trying to trade EVO over the internet?

Your a weird guy OP... weird guy.

Berz out.

Gazorcoop 03-13-2012 10:38 AM

He's still wanted, so either way the OP did well.

ToneCapone 03-13-2012 11:09 AM

I'm not sure at exactly which point you caught on but I'm thinking.... this was a crime in progress. If you called the cops half way through the sale and had all this great info couldn't they have taken over and just nabbed the guy? I know fraud is extremely difficult to prove so I figure law enforcement would love to pounce on an opportunity like this.

smaggs 03-13-2012 11:16 AM

Damn...I would have pulled out of that a lot earlier if I had even been some how convinced to start trusting someone over an internet sale. But awesome detective work...Tony Roma's part was great :D

Hope it gets sorted out...Do you have your car back now then? and haven't paid anything? Just your tow company fee's I guess....?

melloman 03-13-2012 11:21 AM

You should've sent him a huge pile of scrap metal stuffed inside a shell.
And made sure he paid for shipping. :fullofwin:

the reason why i continued to message this guy, is because I realized the scam, just before I shipped it out. But instead of just letting him go, i decided to keep messaging him, acting like everything was OK. and he was expecting to pickup my evo at the shipping yard. but in the mean time, I did the CSI work, and figured out who he was anyways.

I got some repairs done to the car, and replacing some parts to accomodate the trade, and the towing yes. Not out much money, just time. Could have been alot worse.

And yes, car safe and sound. And in its best shape its ever been.

GGnoRE 03-13-2012 11:41 AM

If you try to purchase a non-local car over the internet, wouldn't you be more likely to be scammed?
Probably not to this extent, but I would assume you would be scammed most of the time to a certain degree.

I would never buy anything worth over $100 on the internet without seeing it with my eyes first-hand.

blee123 03-13-2012 01:11 PM

I bought the Evo over the internet, from Pennsylvania.

And the deal wasn't a "too good to be true" shockingly ridiculous deal. The photos and videos did help convince me he owned the car.

StylinRed 03-13-2012 08:17 PM

for some reason i thought the guy getting scammed was redlines_daily (i opened the links and didnt look at the op or anything until later on)

and i was like :fulloffuck: this doesnt sound/seem like him at all (especially when he bitched out the truck driver)

now it all makes sense lol

everyone else said what i was thinking

the texts between the 3 of you sounded like 3 scammers met on the battlefield and neither was making sense like both sides were trying to pull the same scam (i guess it was just difficult to follow, for me)

luckily you didn't get screwed

pastarocket 03-13-2012 08:20 PM

LOL. No Scam Tan sounds like a better name for him. :)

A good read MWR34. You've got great investigative skills.

For some reason when I read that, it reminded me of this...
