| Surround Sound Gaming Headphones
So what's a decent set of true surround sound headphones for a console (PS3)? I've been looking at the Tritton AX720 and Pro, but I'm curious what else is out there that you guys would recommend. I've seen some decent ones that are PC only, but that unfortunately wont work for me. They must support Optical out connections.
Suggestions?

I just got a set of Turtle Beach ones for my Xbox. Cheap and do the job well enough. They have a built in line amp and support mic. No idea if they offer the same sort of thing for PS3 though.
Berz out.

i believe only tritton and turtle beach carry true surround sound headsets.
In enclosed cans i dont think virtual vs true makes any noticeable difference in real-life though

I own the Tritton AX-Pros. Astro A40s. And Turtle Beach Earforce Delta.
In my opinion. The Astro is clearly the best in terms of overall sound quality. The Turtle Beach would be my choice for number two, and has the most features, bluetooth connecting to your phone while playing is pretty sweet too. Tritton is very good, but comes in a convincing last overall, and is the most annoying due to the amount of wires needed for setup.
If I could choose just one to own, I would probably take the Turtle Beach. The sound difference isn't enough to outweigh the nice little features it has.

how much you are looking to spend is also a factor.

My PC and PS3 are in my room, so I wanted something I could use for both. And by both, i mean get audio simultaneously from all devices (sources). For example, play PS3 while watching a TV show, listen to a MP3s, and chat on Skype, etc.
Astro MixAmp and Headphones is what I ended up with. If you just want the mixamp, you can use any headphones you want with it. A40 Audio Systems - Audio Systems

had the psyko 5.1 headphones... i dont know if they work on the ps3 though... it does come with its own amp
but im only posting to recommend you stay away from them they're badly made... whatever glue they use to hold their pieces together is horrible... one of the foam pieces fell off the day i brought it home (1 of like 4 pieces that cushion the top of the head)
and soon after the rest of it just fell apart at the seems like the glue they used had 6month expiry date on it or something
+ a couple speakers died and then finally the amp
it was still within warranty but we just said fuck it (ended up getting a sennheiser virtual setup and it sounds waaay better anyhow)
i hear Sonys own PS3 headphones that importxxx posted are quite good btw

I'm looking at a ceiling cap of around $200 for headphones. I've been warned to stay away from Turtle Beach headphones due to their build quality, though I do kinda like the sound of a couple of their units. Hate to say it because I hate buying their stuff, but I may be leaning towards the Sony unit... if only because I have a Sony Style giftcard I need to use. |

I never worry about build quality because I generally take really good care of my shit. I never toss anything like that around. I place it on my couch or chair, etc. Under normal use, anything should last quite a while.

+1 turtle beach has awesome build quality from my personal experience
you just gotta worry about ripping the wire off but its never been a issue for me long as you take good care of it.
if you can spend the extra $ get the turtle beach PX5 The Turtle Beach PX5 is also the first headset to incorporate dual radios—one for immersive, Dolby Digital surround sound game audio and another for chat on the PlayStation Network via Bluetooth. The Bluetooth feature also supports stereo audio streaming for listening to music while playing a game and can also be used to accept phone calls while playing the game. |
