Right now im thinking of upgrading 1 of 2 hybrid 500gb hard drive, if i swap one out for a SSD how much would it benefit me?

in my experience, big difference. SSDs are way faster and are more reliable since there are no moving parts to worry about. Cost and space wise is another factor to consider. the biggest SSD on the market right now is 240gb and that would cost you an arm and a leg. So the question of "will it benefit you" depends on what your intentions are for the SSD. if your just into the hype then no. if you want to load your games, programs and OS really quick then its worth getting. I got an SSD strictly for my OS and programs to run real fast.

crucial m4 keeps going on sale recently....you can find them for $140-150 range for the 128GB version
i dont NEED ssd atm..but it would be nice..so i'll just wait for them to hit $100 mark before i bite...i dont mind waiting months

I think im going to hold off, my two harddrives are already Hybrids, SSD won't make that much of a difference...

It'll make a difference for sure but not enough to make it worthwhile for you I don't think. The hybrid drive has probably moved all the most accessed data by now to the SSD portion.

SSD's are the most significant upgrade you can make to your system.
my WD velociraptors on my i7 were fast, and when i updated to an SSD it was night and day.

Same here got a SSD from NCIX for cheap, and I think they are still on sale.
Got it just for the OS. Always used a regular hard drive and it was a beautiful upgrade.
Never seen windows 7 load up in under a minute ever. Was really happy with the outcome.

nothing else comes even CLOSE on a $ basis. not a fast CPU, not more ram.
SSD makes the biggest difference.
of course you need a regular drive as well for storage. SSD it too $$$ to be used as anything but your C: drive still.
My PC boots in 25 sec from completely off state to Windows 7 desktop. not even a sata 3 drive.
Hybrid drives are bunk compared to full SSD IMO. get a quality SATA 3 120GB drive and you'll never look back. oh yeah, make sure your MOBO has SATA 3 as well/

My crucial M4 is awsome
Only thing is recommend is buy Somthing big enough to load your games etc on, not just a 32 or 64 gb just for OS, I noticed a big diff loading BF3 on my SSD over the caviar black 1 TB Posted via RS Mobile | |

a lot of larger capacity ssd's perform better than their smaller capacity models. also don't try to use 58gb/60gb's on ur ssd. save up and get a larger one to begin with. it needs the extra headroom to do its work.

Use SSD for boot/app or DB loading... for this purpose alone, if you say a hybrid drive is enough, you are crazy.. 
A modern SATAIII SSD tops 500MB/s... and you definitely feels it comparing to any mechanical drive out there... hybrid or not.
If you happen to be on Mac, do what I do... I have SSD for boot, a 500GB 2.5" for temp. big files and a Promise Pegasus R6 for storage.

Yeah they are both hybrids too but ill consider making the change by next week.
Im either going to get the SSD or buy a new laptop g75

I just recently got an SSD and the best part of it is loading windows and everything installed in it so fast.
I think every one should have an SSD, for their OS and video games, or whatever. Don't use it for media storage though, you won't get much out of it.
I got a SATA2 one with 240gb for 290ish, with $30 MIR and a $30 ncix gift card. Best deal I found so far.

SSD's are so awesome, I've got them as my OS drive in every PC I use now, Work PC, Home PC, Home theater PC, Laptop.
I'll never be able to go back to a spinny drive for OS drive.

just wondering since SSD have a "life" to it as the % health goes down does the performance goes down? or it just higher chance to prone to failure? i've been using my ssd pretty heavily for the last 2-3 yrs and it still at 97% life.. does it mean it's operating at 97% performance? or there's a 3% chance it'll crap out on me?

SSD prices are going down all the time, too. If you buy one now, and in a few years it fails, then just purchase another one. It'll be higher capacity, faster, and cheaper. The time saved when you run an SSD adds up, big time.

One thing to note is the age of your laptop though. Mine's 4 years old and running a penryn cpu. The problem for me is that it can only take around 250MB/s or so of bandwidth out of the ~450MB/s that my M4 can feed it. Difference is still night and day though, the Crucials and Intels are amazing drives.
As a side note, I'm kind of avoiding certain brands right about now. My Agility 3 drive died on me within a month.

My agility 3 still going strong. It's been perfect. Using the latest firmware update. But yeah. There's nothing to worry about for lifespan of an ssd. It will far outlast its usefulness before it fails.
