| WingsWest Aggressor, Erebuni Shogun Style...what happen to those fake VeilSide kits?
Almost 10 years ago...I could see VeilSide Combat knock-offs everywhere on the road, WingsWest Aggressor, Erebuni Shogun, Vis Racing, etc...
People used to put them on Mustangs and Civics...even Preludes, Integras, Ford Probes, etc...
Where did they go? |

Already over 10 years ago, 2000-01 Superstreet mags always advertised the companies. I recall many civic and integras always sported those fiberglass bumpers back then. Anyone remember alfa romeo front bumpers on dc2? In the past, Ppl would paint all exterior pieces to body color... Now... Its all black out this and that.
Evolution.... Evolution....

It actually is a good question though. Not that I'm complaining about the lack of shitty body kits out currently on the road... lol

simple answer... it was the F&F phase, also my other opinion on it was the fact that Japan stopped bringing their RWD sports coupes (RX-7, Supra, NSX, etc) over to North America in the mid 90's, this just left an absolutely massive hole in that segment for quite a few years to come, import enthusiasts were hungry for just about anything....
think of it as if you haven't eaten in days and you get served a rotten steak as your first meal, you're gonna devour that bitch worms included
well that rotten meal was that whole fckin phase and it lasted a good few years... but I'm glad it's gone and now we got supercars only imaginable roaming the streets
I do miss feelin boss during that phase when I actually owned a 1995 FD RX-7, lol, rollin in one of the lead cars from F&F during that phase gave you absolute boss status everywhere you went

+3 with FnF dying, and becoming fundamentally tacky. And fuck off with the bullshit Timpo (someone had to say it). I assume he had a heyday putting up other stupid crap like this in the past?

Anyways I remember the usual Extreme dimensions junk, but the one thing stood out to me were clear hoods. |

Sorry guys, I'm a bit new to the automotive scene.
Are we talking about cheap ricer style body kits?
I still see kits everywhere I go though, so I'm a bit confused where the hate is coming from?
One day, would love to own and drive an RX-7.

I definitely see what Trollpo is saying as it's clear and obvious, I'm not seeing any more of the Civic/Integra/Preludes that I used too 10 years ago when I was in high school.
The new trend now and what I'm seeing most on these streets is "parent powered" self entitled kids driving high end cars with this look on their face
but I gotta say, I definitely prefer the F&F phase/trend, cause I'll tell you right now, I got more respect for the guy with a fully installed but unpainted body kit on his Civic than I ever will for the next punk who pulls up next to me in a 100k Benz/Bimmer his daddy bought him for his 18th bday.....
at least you know the Civic owner spent his last hard earned minimum wage dollar on that fully primed/prepped for paint/yet will never see a paint booth widebody that's going on a car with stock wheels
(no offense to civic owners whatsoever, i randomly picked a car)

Think I spent over 12 years working on mine, and meeting many ppl/shop owners who also put time and effort into building their cars...
Donut: hahaha...were they called Zeal bumpers? Dont remember...LOL...I just called them alfa romeos.
Those acrylic hoods were super expensive, think it retailed $500-$600 USD back in the day, came in different colors too LOL...

Perhaps the more important distinction is built with own hands, not bought with the parent's money?

Well to be fair, the body kit and rice scene from the early days is not all that different functionally from the stance scene of today.
People throwing big money into mods that make the car look cooler, but perform no better. Last week I saw a G35 sedan running huge wheels super cambered, a good 1/3 of the outside tire was not making contact with the road. Just sayin'
10 years from now, we'll be asking where all the stanced out super poke cars went.

Same thing happens to all the trends...where did all the vans go? The airbrushing industry took a huge hit.
It was amazing to watch how inspirational F&F was.

That's an opinion a lot of people have, and no it's not really fair to say these two are the same thing in terms of them being just a fad. This "stance is a fad/phase" issue was pretty well discussed in a previous thread, someone made basically the exact same comment as you did and I simply replied with facts and broke that opinion down without breaking a sweat.
Facts are the F&F trend really lasted a few years, just over 5 but not quite 10... something like from the early to mid 90's and it ended in the early 2000's when the S2000 came out and then the comeback of Japanese RWD with the G35 and 350z...
So compare those short few years to the stance segment, stance has been around much MUCH longer than a few years, since the 80's in Europe with the V dubs, also in Japan roughly at the same time with the drifter crowd, etc... and the only reason it seems like it's the new fad is because now a lot of people are jumping on it here in North America.
So common sense would dictate anything that lasts decades really isn't a fad or phase, especially considering that now a majority of car shows all over North America the amount of Stanced cars that show up a lot of times even outnumber the rest of the field which is crazy.
I do agree with you on one thing, these noobs who jumped on stance just cuz it's hot right now are gonna eventually get out the game when they find something else, but we disagree in the aspect of stance going away, it's not gonna go away like the F&F thing did, been here for decades, and honestly it still hasn't even reached it's peak but it's close, within a few years that bubble will burst.
I honestly just do NOT see whatsoever this leaving the automotive scene EVER but it's obvious why this had to go, and why it ain't comin back
