CM10 for i747. It's really fast and smooth. Few small bugs but definitely able to use it as a daily driver. The new update added a lot of new features as well so its a very good rom.

I read up some common bugs on the JB CM10/AOKP roms but seeing as you've flashed already maybe you can answer

Does facebook sync work?
Camera Focus?
LED Notification?

LTE network? (It doesn't seem to be working for some who are using the AOKP rom and the dev whos porting it over is a huge dick to everyone)

I got blue. It's very pretty.

Fb sync I'm not sure because I use haxsync. It syncs better quality than fb sync.
Camera doesn't look like it's focusing because the square doesn't turn green but it actually is. It may not focus at first but I think the trick is to take a picture with flash first then it will start focusing.
LED notifications work really well and you can customize colours for every app.
LTE I'm not sure about because I wasn't in an LTE area when I was using the from but I've seen some people say that it's working.

How long does it usually take Rogers to deliver a white Galaxy S3? I ordered mine last week, on Monday at around 3pm.

ruthless 08-01-2012 11:41 AM

^Telus took 4 business days from time of order placed to it arriving at my door, Ordered thursday evening, arrived yesterday morning. Rogers should be about the same...

I'm a complete noob, first android phone..is there an app that automatically kills/terminates/closes apps when i press the back button? Or a setting in the s3? Because when i have an app open and close it i press the back capacitive key, it still stays on in the background and i have to hold the physical home button and swipe to kill/terminate the app.

roastpuff 08-01-2012 12:03 PM

Is the LTE on this phone the killer feature vs. the Nexus with JB on it? I'm torn between these two phones.

PornMaster 08-01-2012 02:41 PM

I simply LOVE lte, its so fucking fast.

I was on 4g when I first got the phone and I was messing with lte and never turned it off again

3klipze 08-01-2012 02:42 PM

Anyone having issues with wi-fi. It would connect then use for a short period of time and disconnect. When i try to reconnect, it would say my network is out of range.

Hold the home button and it'll say Remove All on the bottom.

For those looking for LTE on a Jelly Bean ROM, this one works. Haven't tested it personally though.

Use Haxsync to get a 'proper' FB sync

I just tried the 'take first picture with flash to get auto focus working afterwards' and it works! :ahwow::ahwow::ahwow:

LTE is confirmed working on Bell and Rogers (I'm on Rogers)

Nexus: 4.65" screen, 5MP camera, NO expandable card slot, NO LTE, faster & easier access to Jellybean 4.1
S3: 4.8" screen, 8MP camera, microSD card slot (up to 64GB), LTE, gotta root or wait for Jellybean 4.1

The camera difference was big enough for me to go with the S3 over the Nexus. Nexus pictures look like shit compared to the ones you take with an S3. The built in panorama feature in Samsung's Touchwiz rom is fantastic

LTE is great and all, but it'll definitely eat up your battery fast if you use it a lot. I'm pretty happy just running HSDPA/4G/whateverthefuck speeds right now. It's significantly faster than 3G but slower than LTE. The battery life difference between 4G & LTE is pretty big. It's a nice compromise for me.

The SD card issue doesn't matter with me, I don't store a lot on my phone - it is more of a streaming/data device for my usage. The camera and the LTE are basically the two things that really draw me to the S3... but the Nexus has tons of dev support from XDA and it's -$50 (gift card) vs $159 right now. :(

I'm trying to decide if I can live with the worse camera on the Nexus and no LTE... decisions decisions.

Nexus will always have more dev support because it's the 'easier' one to dev for. Keep in mind, the Nexus was released 9 months ago and due for an update, while the S3 just came out not too long ago.

I'm on CM10 cause the aokp one is made by task, and he's a giant raging asshole on XDA

CM10 is still in preview, right? I kind of want Jelly Bean on my phone if possible too... :( Ugh too many hard choices.

I think it really comes down to whether or not you like or dislike the TouchWiz overlay on the Galaxy S series phones and also if you care about being on the latest version of Android ASAP.

Despite ample development for the SGS3, you will ALWAYS have to wait for Samsung to release an updated OS version (lag time of 3-6 months or more) and the source to drop from Samsung for updates before fully functional custom roms can be properly released. If you're comfortable with rooting/flashing roms then Nexus has the edge in terms of software support in the long-run. If you just want the phone to "work" as is, then SGS3 wins because hardware-wise, the internals are much better and it's a much newer phone.

Simplex123 08-02-2012 07:56 PM

^ Actually it's not that bad because s3's JB is quite usable and customizable although it is not official. S3>GNexus for sure.

Levitron 08-02-2012 09:10 PM

I've had a gnex for a few months of daily use (my work+personal phone) and it was great.

I now use a S3 for my daily phone and I have to say...I prefer the gnex.

Why? In day-to-day usage, the raw horsepower of the S3 can't really be seen. The gnex I can use smoothly for regular tasks that I don't think will change much in the next year or so (meaning I wouldn't need a significant horsepower upgrade to do those same tasks).

Camera...I don't find the camera in the S3 that wonderful. Yes, I am REALLY PICKY about cameras. And oh yeah, the 5mp (gnex) vs. 8mp (S3) argument is a non-issue. Check out a photo from the gnex that I took back in April:

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...08278384_n.jpg
*this was done with HDR camera + Instagram filter

I also personally prefer the curvature of the gnex. It just feels nicer in my hands!

Oh yeah, and first phone (gnex) to get AOSP Jelly Bean? YES PLEASE! Rooting my S3 and putting in a ROM that didn't drain batteries or was packed with S-bloatware was a total pain in the butt.

Things I don't like about the gnex:
-screen seems slightly less durable
-screen has banding issues
-speakerphone volume could be a bit louder

The screen sizes you wouldn't even notice that there's much of a difference. Both are pretty huge slabs (btw, I do not believe in the Galaxy Note).

Ughh, such a pain in the ass to order online from Rogers. Apparently my order didn't go through, so now I have to wait another week or so...

If only store prices were as cheap... Most Rogers I've talked to sell the phone $100 more outright

Yup even Telus does, on the teamwebstore its(16GB) $62.49+tax while on telusmobility.com it is 159.99+tax...and if you go into a dealer they will tack on another $35 activation fee

ruthless 08-03-2012 11:20 AM

How is everyones battery life? Mine is pretty good. Went to bed and it was at 94%, wifi off, gps off, powersaver off, bluetooth off. Woke up 12 hours later and its at 89%. Most of the usage was the cell standby. Juicedefender was on as well.

I say this is not bad because people have been complaining about their batteries draining down to 25% overnight...

and p.s. my fuckn case hasn't arrived yet :( how long does it take to get from SAINT PAUL, MN to Vancouver? Shipped out on June 27

sonick 08-03-2012 11:48 AM

Mine's pretty good too, but I have Lux to control screen brightness and I have it set to super conservative in terms of screen brightness.

I don't use JuiceDefender but keep on Power Saving when at the office at my desk. By the time I get back home I am only down to 70% or so.

Gonna hit up night market tonight to see if they got any cases for S3

Ch28 08-03-2012 12:05 PM

People that complain about having poor battery life probably have 15 different widgets turned on their phone with location service and LTE on.

Not necessarily. When I first got my phone, I could barely last 10 hours on stock everything.

Now, after flashing to a custom ROM + kernel, I get 14-15 hours.
