what are the advantages of Swiftkey vs. the stock keyyboard? I've tried both and for some reason i can type more efficiently with the stock one.

I noticed it uses certain patterns when I text. I'm a fast typer, so overall it's a better feel for me.

SK is much much better than stock. For me, the predictive text works way better than stock. Also, you can customize the look/layout/spacing/ with SK, which helps some people.

If typing with two hands, I'm fairly quick/sloppy but SK seems to still know what the heck I'm trying to say. Stock couldn't keep up at all.

I got it on sale during their 10 day sale thingy earlier this year. But I would've paid full price if I wasn't already using Swype :fullofwin:

FerrariEnzo 08-22-2012 11:35 AM

im using swiftkey 3, love it over stock... hard to explain..

Levitron 08-22-2012 12:50 PM

Any of you using CM10 right now?

sonick 08-22-2012 12:59 PM

Ya swiftkey is awesome. Can't be beat for 99 cents during that sale.

noob question: does anyone know how to get adobe flash for android 4.0.4?
if it's not possible, can i downgrade to a prev version of the OS?

Shorn 08-23-2012 03:12 AM

i have no idea about 4.0.4 but on 4.1 jb i found this:
Adobe Flash - 4.1 Jelly Bean - xda-developers

download the attachment and install it. might work

mr_chin 08-23-2012 08:01 PM

does anyone else have problems with accidentally hanging up when talking on the phone by pressing the end call button with your cheek?

yea, I've done that a couple times now, lol. I'm left handed so my left cheekbone hits it during a call sometimes.

I'm new to android, came from iphone.
I'm not receiving a msg tone for my text msgs and email. I only noticed today cuz my phones been on silent mode for the last couple days. I've played with all the settings in "sounds" and still no go. Is there something I'm missing?
Thanks in advance!

Eatman 08-24-2012 10:34 PM

There shouldn't be a special setting. Are you completely stock? If your actual phone settings are set correctly (and your phone isn't on vibrate/mute), then check your messaging app options- I know handcent will allow you to change sounds in the app independent of the phone's settings.

Gorilla glass is scratch-resistant, not scratch-proof. Each iteration of it just increases the resistance to scratching. I don't think any glass will be free from scratches.

The worst culprit is stuff like sand- small enough to sneak into your pockets without you noticing, but that shit wreaks havoc on your phone screen.

On another note- has anyone received a "Call not allowed by SIM" message when trying to make a call? There's only one thread on XDA about it and apparently it's a known issue for i747s. I was wondering if anyone else on RS got the message. (In case you do, the fix is to toggle Flight Mode on/off)

I'm surprised some of you are reluctant to spend the extra $10 on a screen protector.
Especially for a top of the line device.

I just don't like the feel of them, if they're orange peely or rubbery

Only the wet apply ones are like that. Unfortunately the S3 has weird curvatures that make it require a wet apply one. There's also the glass screen protector.

Mike Oxbig 08-25-2012 10:27 AM

My friend just got a S3 and she's annoyed about the "Emergency Dialling (Dialing)" spelling error. Is the software update to fix that out yet? :lol

If you google there's other threads from hofo etc...you can also turn off LTE and leave it to hspa/hspa+. Should work too.

Goto the specific app and hit settings there. Seems there is individual volume and notification options for each app.

The battery on this thing is killing me, and this is just moderate usage and most things turned down.

Any place locally I can find the glass screen protector? OR anybody have any rec's for S3 protectors without the rubbery/orange peel effect?

-EuroRSN- 08-25-2012 03:08 PM

I bought the zag HD glass protector at future shop. That's the only place I've seen them.

!MiKrofT 08-25-2012 03:19 PM

For a real glass protector you can only get them online. The only ones you'll find locally are the Zagg Invisibleshield HD ones. I haven't used these ones before so I can't vouch what they look or feel like.

Expresso 08-25-2012 05:26 PM

what's the difference?
