Is it just me or Shaw mail does not play well with smart phones? Couldn't send e-mails out when I had an iPhone, same thing with my GS3. Only device that worked for me was Blackberry unsurprisingly

Here is the thing with shaw email.

You have to upgrade your account to webmail 2.0. But by doing so, you will no longer be able to check email through email clients like outlook. Only through wm.shaw.ca or on your phone. Good part is, webmail 2.0 supports exchange services, which means, you will have email push notifications.

The workaround to this is, if you're with rogers, you can use smtp.rogerswirelessdata.com as your outgoing server. Downside is that if you're on shaw wifi connection (and maybe others), your outgoing server won't work. It only works on rogers data connection.

How's the camera? Does it have a built in panorama option? I don't use it often, but I find that I do take the occasional panoramic pic.

Ah sorry my info was based off rumors before the specs were released on the 11th! But yeah it seems to be a decent phone with all the important features intact! However the slower processor is a huge trade off for size. If I had a choice between mini vs current S3, I'd probably still get the S3 :)

Good source for wallpapers and ringtones etc.

Love that app. If you're not waking up in the morning to nature inspired stock ring tones, I uploaded an alarm that will wake you up! It's called "Alarm Evolved." Also the stock S3 alarm is super flawed. It keeps disabling itself when you do screen face down and sometimes snooze button = disable. Alarm clock xtreme off the app store is a must have app as well!

shaw and telus email is a pain to setup because they use their own ports and firewall.

fuck with the settings and bingo

Are you sure you're on rogers data connection while trying to send out an email?

smtp.rogerswirelessdata.com
port 25

i'm considering joining the android family.... any recommendations on which version/model of the S3 is good?

also, anyone know how much the i9305 international version costs?

zonda_s 10-14-2012 06:01 PM

^ which provider?

if you're going for rogers/bell/telus/fido/virgin and want LTE, you will need the i747.

if you're going with wind, you'll probably want the t999

the i9305 is for international LTE if i'm not mistaken. if you get that one, you won't get LTE here.

bobbinka 10-14-2012 06:10 PM

I'm on Fido, but the north American versions are dual core whereas the international version i9300 and i9305 have quad core, right?

Can anyone confirm this?

sonick 10-14-2012 06:24 PM

It's true. International version with LTE won't work on north american LTE bands, only Korea.

bobbinka 10-14-2012 06:48 PM

so, if i want LTE, i can only use the i747, no point in i9305 since the LTE wont work here.

but if i want quad core, it'll be the i9300

however, only the i747 and i9305 have 2gb ram

shit.... why cant they just have the same specs worldwide?

ws6ta 10-14-2012 08:03 PM

my friend has the international version and her phone is faster but obviously Internet is much faster on mine

since upgrading to slimbean 2.7 i dont get lte service anymroe only H+ ,any ideas?

Simplex123 10-14-2012 10:38 PM

you can dial #*#*4636#*#* and go change your network to LTE/WCDMA. If LTE is not there then it is not supported by the ROM

Retrac 10-15-2012 02:26 PM

Anyone have a modem they'd recommend for Rogers?

SaviorSelf_666 10-15-2012 02:38 PM

I use this rom and their kernel. No problems. Great battery life, and fast!

[ROM] AOKP(Jellybean 4.1.2)Task & Ktoonsez (10/13) (AT&T/Rogers) - xda-developers

Retrac 10-15-2012 02:41 PM

Thanks! I'm currently using Liquidsmooth and its great so far, just the connection to LTE is kind of wonky. Hoping a new modem would fix it.

mb_ 10-15-2012 07:59 PM

Just protected my S3 with an Otterbox Defender.. this is fucking humongous LOL.

Also, the holster clip broke within 5 minutes :failed: not a big deal since I won't be using it but apparently Otterbox will replace it no questions asked so I'll be doing that tomorrow.
