Samsung slash the price of S3 33% after 1 Oct, I guess they have profitted enough

stuff99 10-16-2012 01:48 AM

Rogers just bounced the price back up again.

Should I buy out my contract for $150 + get an S3 for $0 while continuing the last yr of my contract? Or should I just stick with my iPhone 4 =/ ?

You'll need either a custom rom, replace the phone log (need root), or install another dialer. That bugged me too on my old galaxy S2 also.

Ahh oh well, I call people through contacts most of the time anyways and I only go through logs if it's a missed call which has been happening a lot lately :okay:

sonick 10-17-2012 10:05 PM

Can't you press the menu button then click "view by"? I just found it now. Maybe it reverts to default when i restart>

mb_ 10-17-2012 10:10 PM

Yup I've already done that and it does reset after

3klipze 10-17-2012 10:34 PM

Speaking about customizing,

I was wondering how well "Increase volume in pocket" works. And does it drain a lot of battery? sometimes i miss calls because i can't hear them in my pocket.

It shouldn't drain any more than normal. It probably just turns on the proximity sensor when a call comes in to check.

Is anyone elses battery life pretty short??

I find mine's been pretty bad from the get go.. I've only recently started seeing how many % per hour and i'm losing a constant 10%/hour! And this is with my apps turned off, leaving the phone on my desk and not touching it. I've even tried turning off my data to see if it'd make a difference, but I'm still losing 10%/hour.. any thoughts?

Try JuiceDefender

Turn off Wifi if there's no wifi signal around, and turn off LTE if you're in a weak signal area.

I find having Wifi on when there's no signal is a battery killer.

BrRsn 10-22-2012 02:36 PM

Having WiFi on can kill it but having GPS on drains it like no other. A lot of times I'll forget to turn GPS off and within a few hours my battery can be dead :okay:

SecludedGirl 10-22-2012 02:54 PM

Thanks for the replies! I'll try JuiceDefender later today.

Problem is, I always have my Wifi/GPS turned off... and I've even changed it from LTE to 2G to see if it'd make any difference and it's still the same.

How long do your batterys life last on standby? Or how often do you find you have to charge it? I usually charge it before work, and before work's over, my battery's done so I have to charge it again during work and again later that evening...

sonick 10-22-2012 02:57 PM

I do the same, charged in the morning, then have it pretty much off/unused on standby the entire day. I am usually at around 80% at the end of the day with power saving on.

Is there anything running in the background? What does your battery meter show?

If yours is the international version it may have the standby battery drain that was fixed with the latest firmware update.

mb_ 10-22-2012 03:01 PM

Charge my phone overnight, leave for school at 6 and use it moderately throughout the day and I'll have about 10%-20% left before I go to bed. Power saving off and I listen to music for about 2 hours on my commute.

Are you with fido?

My friends using fido simcards in rogers branded S3's all say their battery life sucks. the only thing that helps is juicedefender and thats because it turns off data in standby and only checks for updates periodically.

Might wanna see which apps are using the most battery .. its surprisingly easy to get a crappy app/malware that drains your battery

I had the weather app running in the background, but got rid of it hoping that was the cause of it. I've deleted fb, twitter, etc in case that had any effect as well. My battery meter shows android system and cell standby as the highest battery usage. I've noticed my cell standby can get upwards to 30%+! That can't be normal right? I did buy this phone from Rogers though.
I've brought up this issue with them as well, but all they told me to do was turn off my data.... which I tried and it still drained at the same rate. I also have my power saving turned on, and my display is dim as hell.. lol What's the latest firmware update??

dhillon09: Nope not on fido. I'm on Rogers and I bought the phone from them when it first came out. I've even tried resetting my phone.. but it still sucks. Think perhaps a new battery might help?
