Applications Manager under Settings you can disable certain apps or something like Juice Defender can control when you wants apps running under what conditions. I'm sure there's other apps out there that can do the same.

Couple things I noticed about jellybean is that the standby battery drain doesn't occur for me anymore as well as my wifi connectivity seems to have improved.

I rikey this update.

I looked through XDA and can't find a definitive answer.

My question is: If I'm updated to the most current OTA (JB), is there anything I need to do special in order to root (compared to 4.0.4)? The method I'm referencing is this one:

How to Root U.S. and Canada Galaxy S3 SGH-T999/SGH-I747/SPH-L710! [Fail-Proof][Noob-Proof][U.S. Cellular] | Galaxy S3 Root

Thanks in advance!

possible solution to the problem: The "media" bug is for those who have SDcards. Try formatting the card

PS: be sure to back up first!

Also: Google now is constantly searching your location for updating its information.

Did this as well just to make sure. I'll report back tomorrow.

Samsung said to be pushing Android 4.1.2 to some Galaxy S III owners, multi-window included

lol 4.1.2 already coming out for international S3.

3klipze 12-05-2012 03:44 PM

^Wow!
Not sure how it it going to feel with multiwindow, i don't think its very useful on a small device like ours. I'd rather have better mutlitasking capabilities.

but can't to see if my transformer is going to get multi window ( seem like only a samsung device thing)

I don't think multi-window is an Android thing- I think it's unique to TW (but I could be wrong).

The media fix thing seems to have fixed my battery issues

Anyone having problems with WiFi constantly downloading. It seems to be andriod OS which is causing the problem. Updated to Jelly Bean yesterday and it was fine. Sometime today it started happening random. Now me and my brothers are both doing the same thing. Small amount of drain on data too, drains battery a decent amount.

I tried a few times a day via phone update with no luck. Decided to install Kies onto my PC yesterday and it worked right away through that method.

Used phone for 1 full day with JB and have not had any battery issues or anything else negative to report yet/

MadMax 12-06-2012 08:32 AM

Here's my problem (s). I can only use LET mode or WCDMA mode. I cannot use just GSM mode or the radio just dies and I get no signal.

Battery life seemed fine the first day but now it is dropping like crazy. As of this writing it has been three hours since 100% battery charge and it is now at 73%. I'v looked at a couple of web pages, some dedicated web apps like Engadget and that's it. GPS has been off, bluetooth on and I've had one call that I've been on. When I check how much ram is in use it is currently at 850mb out of 1.56gb available. Last night I saw it as high as 1.1gb in use. Before the JB update via Kies the most RAM in use would be 700mb. Yes, I have cleared running applications and all windows and the RAM use is still high. I figure it is higher now because of Google Now and maybe that is why my battery is draining faster than before.

The one improvement I've seen so far is that I can copy and paste without crashing whatever application I was copying from. I'm going to back up then reset then phone and see what that does. If it still is buggy then I'll root and install CM10 or Paranoid. If that doesn't work then fuck it, I'll try a Nokia 920.

sonick 12-06-2012 08:37 AM

Why not just use WCDMA, I think that's just the 4G mode for Telus. That's what I have it set on.

For battery check if there's the MEDIA process bug.

I noticed higher RAM usage in JB too, approx at your levels but haven't noticed any slowdown or issues.

So after using the GS3 for a few weeks now and making the odd phone call I finally ran into something that is bugging the hell out of me and hoping someone can offer some assistance.

So while I'm on a phone call the screen will go dark which is fine because I don't want my ear accidentally pressing anything. So I've had to call Rogers Customer Service about a few things and you all know it involves hitting options on the IVR. So when prompted I need to take the phone away from my ear and type use the keypad.

I take the phone away and the screen lights up and I start selecting numbers on the keypad and halfway through it goes black. I move my phone a little and it goes back on but before my hand touches the screen it goes dark again. It's driving me crazy, anyone know what's up?

Just rooted le S3. What ROMS are you guys using?

3klipze 12-06-2012 07:11 PM

Thanks, I'll test it out although I'm positive my hand or fingers don't go anywhere near the sensor when touching the screen. I just tested the sensor itself and it's pretty damn sensitive so I'll just keep an eye out and see. Thank you

If it means anything I've had no such issues since update. 2 full days of testing so far.

3klipze 12-07-2012 12:19 AM

Winson, do you have a microSD in your phone? Just wondering, it would help narrow down the problem

Reformatting the microSD and some other setting tweaks fixed the media bug thing

My phone is fine, got 6 hours of screen time yesterday, wifi + sync on the whole time. Pure texting/facebook/whatsapp/twitter no youtube/movies/games
