I know it's been mentioned already, but the battery is horrible on this phone.

Can't for the life of me imagine why. Large, bright screen. LTE connectivity. Super thin.

Nope, can't seem to figure it out...

If any smartphone gets you through the day, that should be all you need. That goes for pretty well any smartphone out there, today.

Winson, do you have a microSD in your phone? Just wondering, it would help narrow down the problem

Reformatting the microSD and some other setting tweaks fixed the media bug thing

My phone is fine, got 6 hours of screen time yesterday, wifi + sync on the whole time. Pure texting/facebook/whatsapp/twitter no youtube/movies/games

Yes, I do have a Micro SD in my phone which I haven't reformatted since update.

Day 1 - My battery was at 55% before I charged it when I went to sleep and at that point used the phone for 13 hours which consisted of moderate surfing, downloading a couple things through Google Play, whatsapping, and a few phone calls all on LTE

Day 2 - Battery was at 50% before I charged it with 17 hours of use, same as above in terms of use.

This has been consistent with my battery usage prior to JB update. If it means anything I use Juice Defender Ultimate as well.

Battery life seemed fine the first day but now it is dropping like crazy. As of this writing it has been three hours since 100% battery charge and it is now at 73%. I'v looked at a couple of web pages, some dedicated web apps like Engadget and that's it. GPS has been off, bluetooth on and I've had one call that I've been on. When I check how much ram is in use it is currently at 850mb out of 1.56gb available. Last night I saw it as high as 1.1gb in use. Before the JB update via Kies the most RAM in use would be 700mb. Yes, I have cleared running applications and all windows and the RAM use is still high. I figure it is higher now because of Google Now and maybe that is why my battery is draining faster than before.

The one improvement I've seen so far is that I can copy and paste without crashing whatever application I was copying from. I'm going to back up then reset then phone and see what that does. If it still is buggy then I'll root and install CM10 or Paranoid. If that doesn't work then fuck it, I'll try a Nokia 920.

So it seems that I've fixed most of the issues. I backed up the phone, contacts, music, chats, etc. and then did a reset of the phone back to factory specs (with with JB of course instead of ICS). I then reloaded my apps, settings, etc.

The difference between now and yesterday is big. Yesterday after three hours my battery was down to 73%. Today after four hours it is down to only 81%. I even have the live lock screen (liquid?) enabled and still I'm getting better battery life. I have not made any calls like I did by this time yesterday but the calls I made yesterday totaled no more than five minutes. The phone does not stutter when scrolling except for when it first wakes up after sitting for a while and overall it is smoother and seems more "complete". I highly recommend doing a full reset after you upgrade but be sure to back up first.

Ya they have really nice cases. I'm not looking for this particular case but a local retailer that sells the zenus products.

asian_XL 12-08-2012 12:03 AM

it is a waste to cover such a nice phone up with a case.

How long does kies typically take to do a complete backup? This thing has been at it for an hour already.

danny_d19 12-08-2012 11:42 AM

My phone won't even connect to kies via USB anymore, I have to use kies air

bluejays 12-08-2012 05:20 PM

I just downloaded JB last night, had 90% battery life before I went for an exam today, phone stayed in my pocket the entire time, came out 2 hours later and had 43% battery

mr_chin 12-08-2012 05:42 PM

KIES is weird software, you have to reinstall several times to get it work properly. First it won't back up my wife's S3, I reinstalled. Then it won't download, I reinstalled. After that, it won't detect USB, I reinstalled once again. Lastly, it finally works.

Expresso 12-08-2012 07:02 PM

Nova doesn't seem as smooth after the new update. That and the gray notification bar be my only complaints.

Galaxy Note II 1280x720 res, 3100mah battery.

Nuff said.

BrRsn 12-09-2012 02:21 PM

bah!

My S3 on Rogers got the OTA update to JB but my GF"s Rogers Branded S3 on fido didn't get it. Should I swap sims and see if it downloads?

Edit: Swapped Sims. Keeps saying Access to the software update service is provided to users in the order in which they request it. Try again later.

Your GF will have to wait for OTA. My Fido one got it earlier this week. Hmm like 3 or 4 days after my Rogers friend got it.

Vansterdam 12-09-2012 07:16 PM
