I'm not sure if this works for our i747m's, but you can try using Supercurio's OTA Root Keeper

Of course, please do your research and don't take my word for it. YMMV.

(Also, I'm assuming you're on rooted stock. If you're on another ROM, I think you're SOL. You can use TiBU if you haven't got it already to save all of your apps (and their data))

Just installed AOKP on my S3, liking it so far

Any weird quirks? I'm still deciding between AOKP and CM10.

I guess I'm most interested in what you have to say regarding battery life, and whether anything doesn't work.

Nothing so far, just getting used to it. One annoying thing though - the homescreen wallpaper moves/scrolls when you're going through homescreens just like in SGS

I'll report back tomorrow regarding the battery life.

You can install nova launcher and turn wallpaper scrolling off

Planning to root for the first time on my unlocked Telus GS3. One thing I really like is the S Planner on the unrooted GS3. Is there a ROM that I can get a similar app?

geeknerd 12-11-2012 02:50 AM

How to i unlock my Telus GS3? Pay a site? know any trustable cheap ones?

sonick 12-11-2012 07:35 AM

You can do it straight from Telus for $35 if you're concerned.

Though they recently found a way to do it for free on your phone with Jellybean, was posted a page or two back.

If you plan to just root, then you'll have the an unchanged ROM (you'll still be stock), with the ability to run root-required apps (like TiBU).

If you meant that you're "planning to root and flash a new rom," then you will need to look for a ROM that is based on Touchwiz. On XDA, you'll need to look for the tag "[TW]", and avoid ROMs that have the tags "[AOSP], [AOKP], [CM10]" etc.

If you are lost with anything I said, please read the following guide before doing serious damage to your phone:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1736474
http://www.xda-developers.com/androi...-developer-tv/

Also note: be sure to read the OP on all ROM pages that you browse. There's the small chance that the ROM you're looking to install is not compatible for your phone. Note, this means that anything for the i9300 is off-limits.

The google calendar is quite similar to the S Planner app.

Can anyone recommend where to get a decent case for the S3 locally? ie. Urban Armor Gear or Element Case?

bestbuy99 on 39th, just inside from victoria dr. smaller selection, but they have different types going from soft rubber to hard shell. cheaper than nightmarket prices too! not sure if these would qualify as a 'decent case' for you but what they had seemed okay for me

Vansterdam 12-11-2012 08:28 PM

^ decent selection but that place is preety dam hard to find the first time your there lol

Cman333 12-11-2012 11:07 PM

Looking for something like these:
URBAN ARMOR GEAR
Element Case Atom for Samsung Galaxy S3

I want that element case, but ordering off the site they charge $30 shipping, then still duties on top. $100 for a case seems crazy.

TypeRNammer 12-11-2012 11:17 PM

Damn I was gonna go for the UAG case but the Element case looks pretty damn good!

mb_ 12-11-2012 11:30 PM

UAG can be found on eBay for like $28 with free shipping

I'll report back tomorrow regarding the battery life.

Tuesday - Heavy usage, was down to about 12% after 9hrs or so

Wednesday - Moderate usage, just over 13 hours and still have 25% left.

The main reason why I flashed a custom ROM was because I was getting a shitty battery life with the stock one.. Would lose almost 20% after 2 hours of moderate usage. Much, much better so far. Not really looking to get over a day from a single charge, just need it to last me throughout the day without me having to conserve battery and worry about running out of juice.

ruthless 12-12-2012 11:09 PM

Anyone else notice you can't change your mobile network settings to only HSPA...now its only LTE/GSM/WCDMA (auto mode) or GMS only or WCDMA only...

Telus phone...before when i put it on the LTE network I would get the "LTE" logo beside my reception bars, now it only says "4G" like it did when I changed it to HSPA only, before the Jelly Bean update.

BaoTurbo 12-13-2012 12:18 AM

4G is the LTE I believe because mine should be on LTE when it only shows 4G. Do a speedtest, when I did it I got 12mbps. That will prove if it's LTE or 4G

TypeRNammer 12-13-2012 12:23 AM

LTE and 4G connection are definitely not related to each other on the S3.

4G on the S3 is actually HSPA (or 3.5G what ever you guys call it)

My S3 says 4G but I get LTE speeds when I speedtest. Maybe cause it's my ROM- BlackJelly Jelly Bean CM10. As for battery power mines been on for 13 hours with moderate usage and at 50% also using Juice Defender
