I didn't get my S3 screen repaired, but I recently brought my Nokia N9 to VanCell Repair at the corner of Rupert & E. 29th Ave in Vancouver. A customer dropped his S3 off for a screen replacement just before I got in to the store. We both came back 20 minutes later at the same time and his screen was fully repaired. I don't recall how much it was, but the guy was pretty happy.

If it means anything, they were the only shop in town who were willing to order a factory Nokia battery for my N9. $40 parts and labour otherwise, it was $30 + $7 shipping from Amazon for me to DIY and risk fucking shit up. I personally felt that they went above and beyond for me.

thanks Dukes....

I'm directly looking at a ziploc bag containing a torn apart S3 that i took apart and fixed with a new lcd while back and it still ended up dying short while after, and it may as well be $550 of cash is what I paid for it brand new when it came out, electronics really have 0 value at the end of the day especially in the western world....
your post motivated me to fckin fix it just out of principle, even though i have no use for it, lol

i hope the repair shop you listed has a good solid 1 year minimum warranty on their repairs, otherwise it's not worth it

bcrdukes 06-22-2014 09:11 PM

I can't speak for the shop who did the repairs on my phone (or any shop for that matter) but to have a 1 year minimum warranty for repairs on a phone is tough. They're wear and tear items, susceptible to damage and tampering.

I could be wrong, however. I'm sure there will be shops that offer a one year warranty on labour. I think they're worth trying out. The worst they will say is no to the repair since it was previously taken apart. Good luck!

Edit: Check out VanCell's warranty - Our Warranty | We Back Up Our Work. They offer 6 months warranty on labour.

I would like to hear some honest input from recommended local stores to where I should bring my phone to get it fixed. Please share any good/bad reviews!

cheers

Despite the name, my cousin brought his phone to a place called Yolorepair twice for his S3 and was completely satisfied with it. Price was cheaper than most as well.

has anyone else had the power button stuck internally?
its just constantly soft resetting to the point my phone isn't use-able
i tried hitting and flicking the phone by the power button, but that didn't work
i pried out the power button and tried to see if the button below was stuck but appears to be normal

anything else i can try?
just need to backup the pics and contacts and i'll probably grab a s5 this week

Thanks bcrdukes for the input, much appreciated.

I just dropped off my phone after work, should be expecting to pick it up tomorrow. Its quite nice that they're located only down the street from where I live. I will update as soon I pick up my phone for others who are seeking a review.

You'r welcome! I hope they can solve your problem. Looking forward to your follow-up!

Update: I learned that a colleague of mine had their iPhone 5S screen replaced by them a week ago. Good as new and they did it within 30 minutes (this was during lunch.)

Just a small update after getting my screen replaced at VanCell @ 29th and Rupert.

First, the cost to replace the LCD unit was $190+ tax but they were nice enough to let me just pay all cash to avoid tax.

I am overall pretty happy with the repair. Looks and feels like a brand new phone (I also got my bezel replaced, it was beat up as fuck.) Time wise, I can't say how long they took since I was in no rush but they do advertise that the repair only takes 30 minutes on their website which is pretty damn fast.

They also have a 180 day warranty incase any problems would occur but the girl who was helping me with seemed pretty confident about their work.

In conclusion, I would recommend VanCell to any RSer's for future repairs or unlocks.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. I believe the girl who helped you is the owner. She was helping me last time and she mentioned it was her business.

downloaded the update when I got it 2 days ago in the morning.

4.4.2 kit kat

so far no pblms.

Lomac 06-27-2014 04:48 PM

My phone indicated that it had downloaded 4.4.2 the other day, but when I hit okay for it to install, nothing happened. Phone is still running 4.3 and states it's currently up to date when I go through the software update option.

Slightly annoyed at that, especially since my Wifi has been all kinds of messed up since it had updated to 4.3 a while back.

double0seven 06-27-2014 08:47 PM

Just checked, no updates for me yet.. :(

incubus 06-29-2014 06:37 PM

nothing yet, I'm on Rogers if it matters

double0seven 07-05-2014 02:45 AM

Downloading right now.. On fido

I got the upgrade over a week ago and my battery life is lasting much better now. I like the split screen option but it would be nice if you could temporarily make the tab disappear by holding the back key, as you could on the last version

tool001 07-08-2014 02:20 PM

^ previous version u could drag it to be split screen, if u just click on app link it opens in full screen. now it just opens in full screen, u have to click on the dot (split) and then full screen icon. (:p ,, serious first world prob). . annoying nevertheless.
