Tangerine finally called me back and approved me for the cashback
they gave me a limit as much as my TD Aeroplan card
unlike Amazon Visa cashback which only gave me a $600 limit.....

Have had my PC Financial World Elite Mastercard since middle of January. Already have $40 in free groceries... and I haven't been buying that much stuff at Superstore!
7c in cash back from the Superstore gas bar is also awesome.

Been thinking of switching to something else after being with td visa aeroplan infinite for some years now, after a few days of researching and mathing shit out...
Costco executive member + MBNA cash back= 4% back at costco... basically switch as much purchases to costco as possible.
MBNA cash back 2% everything that's not costco.
Costco MasterCard 3% at restaurants.
should be getting 3% back on average.
cost: ~200 a year for costco membership and MBNA.
should make more back dollar wise even after converting aeropoints to dollars...
only gripe I have is I lose the automatic travel insurance coverage... and lose apple pay and iOS app support for those banks/CC's lol... oh and they're all mastercards. so if a place doesn't accept mastercard you're shit out of luck haha...
what do u guys think? 3% back average is pretty good for ~200 bux a year (including costco's membership).

I've been incredibly happy with my Amex Gold: https://www.americanexpress.com/ca/e...ds-Cards-Large
Quick Summary on what I like - 25000 points (1:1 to Aeroplan/Avion!, or $250 cash value) upon 1500 spend in first 90 days [enough for Aeroplan North America Round Trip]
- Low income requirement (20k annual), 'no' spending limit since it's a charge card [great for students]
- 2% on gas, groceries, drug store, flight, car rental, etc.
- 3% on travel if you book through AMEX (Air Canada, WestJet at the same price as Google)
- 5 million emergency medical, 500k travel accidence, trip interruption, baggage, flight delay, etc
- First year free, 150 afterwards I believe
Edit: PM me for a referral code if you'd like one - you get the exact same benefits, but I get 5000 points out of it

^ Most retailers don't take AMEX though, they charge ridiculous discount rates to stores.

But u have Costco executive membership (the black member card) 2% back automatically.
And then u have MBNA 2% back everything
So u use MBNA at costo for 4% back total. 2% credit goes back to Costco member account (not capital one Costco credit card). And 2% goes back to MBNA. And u use the MBNA 2% everywhere else except restaurants, where you use the 3% back capital one Costco cc.
89 dollar mbna annual fee (u get 100 bux first year for signing up)
And 110 for executive membership at Costco (not the 55 dollar basic membership)
Hence the 200 dollar annual fee.
Your cash back average should be around 3%.
Makes sense??
FYI I pulled the trigger and applied for MBNA cash back lol. Got approved with 20k to start lol.

BUT Amex does have nice travel insurance benefits.

BUT Amex does have nice card benefits. Travel insurance 5mm I believe. lol. | The not being accepted does happen more often at ethnic retailers - personally haven't had much issue here in Ontario, but YMMV
The low income and credit requirements are quite appealing as a student, I don't make nearly enough income to qualify for an equivalent MasterCard with similar benefits

I would assume for most people that the 2% categories will account for over 50% of your months spending.
With that said, the numbers are still decent.

With that said, the numbers are still decent. | The average would still be above 2%. Maybe 2.5% which like u said is decent. And comparable to Amex travel if u converted points to cash value. Costs more overall but you also get access to Costco. Who doesn't wanna shop at Costco? Lol

effective April 29th | they're also raising the foreign transaction fee from 1.5 to 2.5% i believe... i forgot the numbers, but it's higher lol.
nevertheless... it's still a great free backup card. 2% in 3 categories for a backup is awesome.

I use the BMO World Elite MasterCard and the MBNA Rewards World Elite. Both great cards with great value for associated cost. For anyone who deters from a fee-based card due to annual fee, think about what your monthly or annual spend is and calculate the difference in rewards dollars from a free card vs premium card. If you believe that the perks such as lounges, travel, medical insurance are things you'll use from the premium card then there could be value for the upgrade in addition to collecting rewards or cashback faster.

effective April 29th | Got the letter - switched to AMEX Simply Cash.
5% for 6 months on gas, groceries, and dining.
1.25% on everything else.
0 annual fee, comes with travel accident insurance, rental car insurance, buyer/purchase protection.
The best part has to be $100 for each referral. If you want this card, PM me and we can split the referral bonus.

question:
recently got a refund on an item i ordered to my card and now i have a 'positive' balance above my credit limit
Is this bad for my credit score?
eg. i have a $10k limit and with the refund i now have $11k available to spend from that refund 🤔
