AMEX plat seems to be the ultimate business card - at least in my network.

Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk | I referred myself to the Amex Gold Business; FYF and the CSR I spoke to confirmed it was 40K points after 5K in 3 months.

if it really mattered I would've just subtracted $5 paying your bill or ask for a direct deposit
my experience with the Scotiabank reps are pretty good...but you can hear it in their voice after the card closed it's caused them quite the burden haha

Um, I paid exactly what was on the written statement and on-line balance. The five bucks was from rewards points they figured out afterwards. Not my fault they were............... nuff said. I think they were “banking” on people to not bother, gulolol.

They are not legally allowed to keep your money. If you don't request the cheque, it will be there forever for redemption, either with the company or when enough time has passed, turned over to the government.
They could care less if you redeem or not.

$100.00 Canadian Costco Cash Card that I purchased at the Willingdon Costco using my PC Mastercard. This was like three days ago? I could have used the Costco Mastercard to purchase it, but I don't think you get cash back on cash cards. I figured PC Mastercard would not know it was a cash card purchase, which means I get 1% cash back, lol.
Anyway, I went to the pump at the Bellingham Costco today and just put the gas card into the slot. Didn't even put my Costco Membership Card in. It recognized it and the above showed up on the screen. No transaction fee, by the looks of it. It's what the exchange rate was at the time of sticking the card in.
It's the best way to avoid transaction fee until the fricken Home Trust card shows up in two years, gulolololol.
For those who have a Mastercard that gives you more in the way of rewards and you shop at a US Costco a lot, this might be worth looking into.

I exchanged 300 CAD in anticipation of getting a US Costco cash card, but realized later that it was a better idea getting a Canadian Costco cash card, because I would at least get some kind of cash back for it. Even if it is 1%, lol.
I only filled up with 30.00 USD of gas, 'cause I drive an electric car around town. I have three full jerry cans at home. If I didn't go to Bellingham, I wouldn't need any gas, hee hee. US casinos and their second hand smoke. What can I say? I'm addicted. EDIT: I just realized why you asked. I used my regular membership card to get in. I'm not sure if the cash card will get you in. You'll probably need the membership card at the check out lanes, too. Hmmmmmmm............ maybe me try next time.

PSA for anyone that has a 0% forex card, uses paypal frequently, but didn't know about this.
Paypal charges exuberant currency exchange fees, while the conversion fee is 2.5% like many other cards, however, the way Paypal selects its exchange rate is different than mc/visa.
On default settings, Paypal will "help you" convert a foreign transaction into USD, and then charge your cc. This means that even if you have a 0 forex card, you'll be charged a forex fee via Paypal.
The only way to avoid this is to select currency conversion option (either your cc or paypal):
- Log in -> Click on "Settings" (Gear Icon) -> Click on manage "Payments" -> Click on "Manage per-approved payments" -> Look on the left side of the page and click on "manage per-approved payments" -> Click on "Set Available Funding Sources" -> Click on "Conversion Options" -> Select "Bill me in the currency listed on the seller's invoice." and submit.
Hope this helped someone!

I always forget how to find that option when I get a new card, so I select it each transaction instead of just taking 30 seconds to set it up haha

sounds like they're tightening up, whoever can't get those documents in a timely manner will probably just get dropped or even further backlogged
even if you get the card you can practically forget about any customer service in the immediate term...I haven't even gotten my first statement and gave up on the phone call 30 min in....just used Visa Online to check my balance

You guys are still getting dinged on the banks foreign exchange for that specific day. If youre willing to go through that HomeTrust deal headache you may as well spring for the USD BMO card and pay the $65 fee but get it back for free after $1000 spend. I just pay off the US balance every month in person. Lets you load up buying USD at cheap rates too.
Alternatively you can sign up for a Banner Bank US Mastercard in Blaine too, but would require you paying the bill in Blaine once a month. Might not be as convenient.
Lastly, the Scotia Visa Passport Visa is a 0% forex fee too, 139 AF but spend 1000 in 3 months and get $250 in travel points back. Heres a tip, apply that 250 towards a hotel on Priceline that offers 100% refunds, wait til statement comes in and deducted, then refund the hotel and bam you just knocked off $250 off your next statement. Essentially youre up $111 if you spend $1000 in 3 months, and still get the 0% benefit. http://www.scotiabank.com/ca/en/pers...nite-card.html |
