Three men are without their cars after being busted driving at excessive speeds on Highway 1 through Chilliwack early Thursday morning.
One of the drivers reached a speed of 265 kilometres an hour in his Aston Martin before being stopped by police and having his vehicles seized. The driver of a Audi R8 was also stopped after being clocked at 176 km/h.
A passenger in the Aston Martin had been stopped two hours earlier after being spotted by a Mountie driving another car at 147 km/h.
All three drivers were friends who were in the Chilliwack area for a birthday party. It turned into a costly night for the trio. The drivers of the Audi and Aston Martin were fined $483. The driver of the first vehicle was fined $368. All the cars will also be impounded for a week.
But Cpl. Jeff Bodner, with RCMP Fraser Valley Traffic Services, said the night could have ended much worse for the men.
Bodner noted that it was raining and roads were slick early Thursday morning and seven vehicles were passed by the speeding vehicles.
"If that guy travelling at more than 200 km/h loses control of the vehicle . . . he's going to be taking those vehicles out. It's going to be catastrophic."
The section of highway 1 surrounding Chilliwack is not a flat straight run either, the Aston Martin driver especially is fortunate to have been pulled over, because otherwise he could have easily lost control killing himself, his passenger and potentially other road users. I'm glad they got clocked this time, they won't be getting off easy like before..

They'll be back at it the next week. I'm all for speeding at a reasonable speed but fuck the guys who put others at risk with their need for excessive speed. Higher fines/tougher punishments definitely needed.
Just to add, since I've seen a number of people make comments alluding to the fact that these cars are designed to excel at high speeds and therefore the drivers actions were not unsafe on the newspapers webpage, that argument is idiotic.
I would consider myself a good driver with an ample amount of driving experience for my age, which is likely comparable to the drivers busted with these exotics. If you put me behind the wheel of a high performance car however, I would not suddenly be empowered with extraordinary driving abilities. If you put me in the seat of a Formula 1 car, I would total it attempting to do what it is designed to do. A car designed to reach high speeds and accelerate hard is only slightly safer, if at all, than an average car without a driver whose skills equal it's abilities under extreme conditions. Period.
I'm sure the government will be pursuing stiffer penalties, the ones being reported at this point are just initial road side infractions.

only $400 fine?? They need their cars auctioned off like that f430 scuderia
Granted I will never own a car that is capable of achieving tremendous speeds like this, but I believe fines like this are crazy.
Honestly if I knew that I would get my car taken away from me and seized when I'm driving over 200km/h I don't think I would stop. I think its safe to say that a lot of people assume the same. I wonder how many countless people have evaded the police because of this reason?
so many problems would be solved if science was put to proper use and a douchebag test was performed based on one's dna. at a certain level of douchebaggery ppl would not be allowed to own cars and the world would be so much better

$400 fine is like nothing to them.... They probably make that shit in a second
Seeing how the passenger in aston already got fined just before yet they continued to do these moronic shit, clearly shows $400 fine isn't doing the justice
Stupid people like this needs mandatory jail time, paying their own expenses not sucking on tax payer's money. you can always make money but can't buy time.
Whether 200km is nothing or not, like many of you guys already stated, it can put others in danger, especially in rainy days.
& I totally agree with mindbomber. Driving an exotic doesn't make you a superman
Hahahah who the hell is comparing hwy #1 to the autobahn? Clearly you have never driven on both.
Anyone who understands concrete and road construction wouldn't dare go over 120 on HWY #1, it is by far the shittiest road conditions for a highway EVER, These kids are either really stupid or brave to go that fast. I agree with excessive speeding, but in an 80 zone, I dont think someone going 120 should receive the same penalty as someone going 265. Crush that car infront of him PLEASE
I doubt it. Have you seen his posting history? Whenever this topic comes up he has two standard replies: It's OK to drive fast if your car is capable and people who complain are "jelly" or "haters".
And I just noticed he played both his cards in this thread again.
