Got my bumpers and all back from the paint booth. Half assed putting them on because they'll probably be off again soon :okay:

westopher 09-19-2013 11:46 PM

Got rid of my chrome shift boot surround and installed black alcantara shift boot and ebrake boot. Flash makes it look pretty grey, but its much darker in natural light.

It should have been an easy 45 minute job but for some reason nothing is going back together. I don't think I've ever had so much of a problem getting the ball joint back into the LCA.

Oh, and avoid Lordco axle reman's at all cost. This one barely had 20k km on it before it blew the boot.

...or maybe I'm just too low? :lol

Finally fucking finished this tiny ass, 30 minute project. Such a huge hassle. The Lordco replacement I bought was defective out of the box. And a used part I bought from a local wrecker was also defective. Both axles had the tripod bearing separate out of the housing. Lordco offered to exchange it with a new one, but apparently no parts exist in all of fucking BC. So... they would have to ship a new one directly from the manufacturer. ETA? Three weeks.

Fuck that.

With help from Ice Boy and Alatar, I tried to get one from Napa. They sold it out from under me, and that was their last unit. Desperation called, so I got a hold of Honda. $800 for an axle. And they didn't even have one in stock. :lol

So I took the wrecker unit to a local shop to have it fixed. They seated it, sealed it back up, done. Went to install it... problem. It kept binding when I'd try to rotate it. Sure that the axle was fixed properly, I tried troubleshooting it. Finally, frustrated, I pulled out the axle again and, low and behold, it was fubared. Brought it to the local Toyota dealership in town up here, and they fixed it free of charge. Came back home, installed it... works like a fucking charm now.

:fullofwin:

Fuck. I've never had such a headache trying to replace an axle before in my life. A thirty minute job turned into a bloody week. :lol I was *this* close to taking my wrecking bar to the windshield of my car, I was that frustrated.

Oh, and of course the Blazer had to die at the same time.

Where did you pick up the alcantara boots? My shift boot and knob are in need of a replacement, but I still can't decide if I want to go alcantara or stick to leather.:concentrate:
Also price for the boot if you don't mind

What car are you looking for? The ebrake boot and shift boot came to like 80 bucks shipped from rallyroad.net, but they don't come with the ring that clips in, just the material, so you have to rip the boots off and glue them to your original ring. If you have an e46 by chance I accidentally bought an oem one with ring for 79 bucks, which I am selling for 60. Fucking Ecs tuning had the wrong PN# listed and I ordered it through bj bmw and its 20 % restocking fee, so figured I'd sell it to someone at a discount before I took it back.

^ will let you know through PM if i decide to go alcantara or stick to black leather. I'll be looking at a friend's e82 with black seats and alcantara boot either tomorrow or tuesday, pretty much same color interior as my e46. thanks for the heads up
