Oh it's a long ways from inspection, heck it's a long way from a permit :p But I do have some parts on the way. Trying to learn carburetors haha. Once I get it running properly i'll be much happier. A few new parts in the mail, including some bushings which I think could be an issue at inspection. Brake booster problem is next. Sure would be nice to have a proper place to work on it. It's a project, what can I say.

your brake booster uses manifold vacum to operate. If its not working theres two reasons. One its not getting enough vacuum or two its ruptured meaning it doesnt hold vacuum. Both issues can cause the car to run poorly cus both issues either indicate a vacuum leak or actually cause the vacuum leak.

As far as I understand, the L24 engine doesn't really use any sort of vacuum system other then the brake booster itself (and vacuum advance for the distributor, but I can't get the thing to idle yet never mind drive :p). As you stated, there is either no vacuum either from a leak in the hosing from the manifold, or B the booster itself is faulty. Other vacuum hoses are for the emission systems, which route air from the manifold back into the carb, purely for burning those vapours in combustion, rather then exposing them to the air. I can't really see this making the car run poorly, as vacuum is not used to adjust (Again the distributor), nor monitor any systems, unlike an injected motor. Correct me if i'm wrong.

I do need to check the check valves, as if they are indeed stuck closed, I can see that causing issues.

Yesterday I swapped out all 9 solenoids in my transmission. The job was a lot easier than I was lead to believe and now I have smooth shifting back. Took 4 hours to finish, about another hour to clean up and button up the skid plate etc.

05 VW TDI Jetta. The transmission is a Jatco 09A - same transmission was used by: Mazda, VW, Jaguar, and Range Rover. I have 260k on it now, planning on another 240k minimum - it has been one solid car.

All the write-ups say you should remove the whole front end of the car to do the job, but I managed fine without.

Flushed out carbs with carb cleaner, flushed fuel lines between fuel pump and carbs and fired her up!

Idles like a champ, and revs nicely! Might be time to get a day permit and drive her for the first time!!!!!!

Are you here or in TO?

afaik, if a vehicle has been purchased from out of province and hasn't passed inspection, it can't be driven, other than for the strict purpose of transporting it to a shop.

Just a heads up.

Hmmm I didn't know that (Vancouver BTW). Good to know. More work to be done to make sure it passes first!!

Good job!

thing with these 4th gens (88-91 civic) is that there is no after market support. and i hate to say it but 90% of them are complete trash so i just look for random things i like and try to make it work on my hatch

anyone can spend money on something made for their car. or mimic another car they saw. to me that is not impressive or creative.

that being said, its getting a different exhaust setup, wing and diffuser in the near future, all made/designed by me

:alonehappy:

thanks for the love man
