Replaced 1 1/2 struts over a 5 hour period today. Really starting to dislike working on old cars right now.

Replaced my Conti ExtremeContact DWS with PureContact tires. We'll see if how these handle my abuse, I really liked the DWS prior.

wow, what was wrong that it took that long to replace? do you have an impact and oxy/act? i would think that they're almost essential for working on an old car.

2" Glannd nut on top of the strut insert was giving most of the issues. Air tools wouldn't help for most of my issues today. Some of it was pretty tight. Wrench only. Propane torch and no impact gun.

It's now soaking in an ATF/Acetone concoction for the night.

^ I remember a HotRod Magazine article a few years back that said they use a heavy duty engine degreaser on bolts that are insanely super uber stuck/immovable due to rust/crap in the threads. I forget their reasoning exactly but i believe they more or less swear by it.

I found the ATF/ Acetone mix from a magazine article that compared all the best penetrating oils. PB Blaster, Liquid wrench etc. The home made combo blew them all out of the water. At this point, i'd dip the things in acid. haha

Installed intake with a buddy yesterday. This was really easy, took 30 mins. Its nice to hear more intake noise and the turbos spooling. Saves some weight too since the stock airbox is a bit heavy. Please excuse the dirty engine bay.

Went to RG to dyno a friends car. Decided to also dyno my focus ST while it's still stock for some baseline numbers. It was 33° out and car was sitting in the sun for 2 hours before. We figure it was already quite heat soaked. Car pulled timing and went super rich, thus making crappy power.

Pretty disappointed.

As far as e46s go, its as good as it gets, however, although I may sound retarded for saying this, I actually prefer the e36 looks, and analog-ness (I know thats not a word)
My next car will likely be older rather than newer.

When you say next car, are you keeping your current one and buying a second one, or selling your e36 and buying a second car?

RG's Dyno give low numbers to start with, nothing to be disappointed about. Stock FRS/BRZ put down somewhere between 125-130whp.

Peak was 187whp/225tq which is very low. Stock ST's in the states put down 230/265 very commonly so it's quite a drop. Granted it was very hot out. We did a 4th gear pull which is the closest to 1:1 but it made less power due to the CPU taking the tuning out of optimal specs. So we did the power pull in 3rd.

I usually am a chevron 94 guy (for instances like a dyno) but to a friends suggestion I went with shell 91. Possibly bad gas? It would be a reason for the car to pull timing. But that's okay. Once I put some mods on it the gainz will seem more cray

I plan on accumulating cars. The e36 isn't worth shit on paper, and its basically a brand new car at this point so I'd keep it.
On another note I cant believe a stock FR-s only put down 130whp on that dyno. I'd actually cry.

I started with my e36.. then M5, 3 then the clown shoes etc etc. I accumulated all of the BMW I have owned.

Advantage of that... surprisingly a lot of common parts and procedures.
Downside of that... you need more than a few parking spaces, battery tenders and most importantly a well stock cache of parts.

I don't think the BRZ/FRS is that horrible in city traffic.. how once you have passed abbotsford you are better off with a 6 cylinder.

Window regulator failed on me.

First real problem on the Saab I've come across. Normally this isn't a big deal but, well... finding spare parts are a bit of a problem...
