How do some manufacturers get HID's that dont glare in reflectors? For example some G35's have them, old S classes, older volvos, they all have HID's in reflectors but they dont glare

The reflector was designed for hid in mind it uses D2R bulbs

http://www.ipdusa.com/uploads/images...lsize_9929.jpg

d2r bulb has that blacked out spot near the base to reduce glare. Projectors weren't favoured before because it was harder to produce and get a even light output and it looked weird when the base car had reflectors its just easier to redesign the reflector bowl.

hid in a halogen projectors generally produces something like this

Simply because the halogen projector has a slit above the cut off known as "squirrel finders" its meant to let some light go further ahead but since hid bulbs are a lot brighter it generally produces a hot spot.

^^ This...definitely better to block/bend the squirrel finder if you are putting HID in a halogen projector. But at that point your lights are open and you might as well retrofit and bolt on a real HID projector!

Retrofit is the only way to go IMO.

Bear in mind that even with the right hardware, you need to align the lights properly or people will still think you're an asshole.

Back on topic spent the morning fixing the oil cooler o ring on my brothers 97 Jetta, whoever decided the oil filter location on that car was an asshole. I spent forever fiddling around since I didn't have a 1 1/16"/27mm socket, then gave up and bought one from Lordco for a stupid price. Once I had that it was a 5 minute job though.

In the midst of swapping out friend's/family winter tires. I think I'm up to 6 or 7 sets now and another 7 to go.

Went winter mode on the Jeep and replaced the crappy tailgate hinges.

Then finally got around to cleaning up the FC a bit.
Got rid of this:

and replaced it with this:

Seen you the other day on the highway, boosting with a camaro chasing you..

Shiny.

You're the BRZ?

That guy started weaving through traffic and ended up on my bumper. Usually I just ignore these kind of drivers but this guy was annoying me so I gave it some. Half way through I told myself it really isn't worth it and the let off for the inevitable fly by. Stupid of me to egg him on in the first place - should have just changed lanes as I usually do.

Nice ride man. Very very clean car. Love the diffuser and contrast of wheels vs the vehicle colour. You looking to upgrade? (Saw the sale thread)

Spoiler!
Good bye Auto, hello 4 speed. Spent the weekend doing the conversion. A hell of a job, but the car is a ton of fun now.

Upside down picture (I dislike iPhones) shows the load I took to the island to complete the job. Didn't have the balls to do it here incase I effed up. Did 90% of the job myself, just had a little help aligning the clutch, and lining up the input shaft when putting in the tranny from dad.

fliptuner 11-14-2014 03:35 PM

Congrats man.

It's 1 thing to do an auto->manual swap on a newer car but sourcing parts for an older one and making sure they're 100% is a whole other project.

Everything go smoothly?

I did enough research to avoid most of the issues, but I did come across a couple small issues. Had to fab up some bolts for the tranny, as the flange was thicker then the auto tranny. Being a long weekend in a small town means fasteners aren't always easy to get. Also had to fab up a "piston" for the master slave as the one purchased wasn't compatible with the transmission.

The pedal set I purchased had 40 years of wear and as you can see as pictured the slot use to be a circular hole for a pin. I had it welded up, and redrilled it. Forming the clutch line was no problem as I've gotten pretty good at it after making the brake lines.

Happy so far, I was a little worried about highway RPM as the manual cars came with a higher geared rear end, but it sits about 200rpm lower at 100/h and better acceleration to boot!

Don't think I have ever been more pleased/excited about an addition to one of my vehicles. Instagram pic does not do them justice.

Finally changed the oil on this myself with some help from revscene member ts14's and his new shop. Big shout out to him for his help. Hit him up for those ICBC claims! A lot of cars around the shop as well as a battered genesis coupe getting a new rear end.

The good stuff;

Insured and drove the FC today...turns out we didn't tighten down a coolant hose so I arrived home in a cloud of steam. Should be an easy fix for tomorrow though.

hud 91gt 11-16-2014 02:15 PM

Tried to start the 325, and starter isn't engaging. This doesn't look fun. Sigh. Atleast the Orange car is running. ha.

Went driving in the MR2. Then this happened.

Was going pretty quickly over the GM tunnel. Random muffler was sitting on the road. Cracked my Berk exhaust right at the flex section. Worst. Pretty sure it hit my tranny too, cause now it's leaking.
