Yeah, for some reason they used different engine/tranny crossmembers, brakes, rear diff, firewall (hell, even the bolt pattern is different) between 2 trim levels. It's like the difference between a Civic DX and an SI, except I'm installing a TypeR drivetrain. It really should be a lot more straight forward.

Only the swaybar and crossmembers are PC'd for cost reasons.

Looks great tastic! Much respect to those who have the patience for high level detailing.

whats expensive to you? i had all this done for around 300$, for how durable the powder coat is, i feel like it was worth every dime

May I ask Where did you get the powder coating done ?

+1

+2.

I used Quality Powder Coating in Richmond recently and was very impressed with them. Curious about other options though.

duy- 12-11-2014 01:59 PM

i usually just go there and dump parts off, their name kinda escapes me. back in the day i use to use rainbow powdercoating in coquitlam by the icbc off brunette but they're a bit fair for me now. just call airstripe off bridgeport and shell in richmond, ask them for a list of recommendations. airstripe is a sandblasting / media / bead blasting shop that knows a bunch of decent powdercoaters, both of which i use. if you bring a decent amount, you actually save a bit more money just because they can run a batch, never hurts to ask for a quote. personally ive found that for the amount i pay, its much more worth while to just have it powdercoated professionally than to sit there sand, primer, paint, wait... but that depends what your times worth to you.

white rocket 12-11-2014 02:13 PM

Good info. I've used Air Strip on Bridgeport as well when parts need to be stripped. They tend to use Dynapro for PC'ing, and they are OK, but now that I've found Quality Powder Coating I'm sticking with them.

duy- 12-11-2014 02:16 PM

yes thank you! both companies I use, they're both good in their own way. that batch I posted is from quality, personally I prefer to go to them because the road there is fun... you know what I'm talking about

tastic 12-11-2014 02:18 PM

Another good experience with Air Strip too...they blasted my mazdaspeed3 calipers and brackets. Very good job and very nice price.

Took off my engine torque damper. Little shit has been installed barely a year and already needs a rebuild, completely slack.

Holy crap that's a good deal. Is that for blasting and PC or just the latter? Was it done recently (current pricing)?

I've done all my blasting at a buddy's shop, so essentially free. I chose paint>PC for a lot of the parts cause they either still have good bushings/bl's/bearings in them, not worth it cause small brackets and colour match.

I also generally try to do things myself unless I'm limited by time, equipment or expertise. Spending a few extra days prep/painting parts isn't too bad. Right now there's about 20 things hanging off the garage door tracks - place looks like a creepy windchime store.
