Flushed the fuel tank on the Audi project, which meant draining about 15L of medium-golden smelly fuel. Once it was done, ran 10L of premium through the system and then finally filled the tank with 10L of premium in anticipation of starting the engine once my stuff is back from TIG welding. An hour or two later, I was thinking "gee, it still really stinks of fuel in here..." Uh, no. That's just that fresh premium leaking out on the floor:


Project Escort has been stripped to a shell in anticipation of the next couple of weeks. I'll be taking over on it starting Tuesday, so more photos and progress on that one to come (even if isn't my car). And by stripped to a shell, I literally mean there is nothing but a white metal shell in our garage now. Starting from the ground up!


The '58 got the door sealed up for moisture, and the door panels installed. I hate the all-black interior, but I figure it will be way more fun to drive the car while my budget catches up to the final interior plans. Found a problem with the window regulators, so I'll be shopping for some used units once again. You can see the splines are too short on the front set, which means for the window winder I can't use the ivory trim circle that's supposed to be there. Grrr.



Fiberglassed the grill insert mounts into the Audi bumper, and worked out a solution for the fuel line. Just need Lordco to bring in a couple of Russell fittings.


Then today, after washing the '58 (damn it looks good clean!) I figured I should take it for a spin. Ended up down in North Vancouver and back, went for a short cruise with my buddy and his all-original Manx buggy.

Finally put the Batman emblems on it. Filled the meth bottle up and took it for a rip through the tunnel. Still can't get over how loud this cars is now. Its intoxicating.

Got the car aligned at Dale's on Saturday. I need new tyres...so I'll be going back with PSS. Also had them swap the EBC Red brake bads to Girodisc SS pads and Anti-noise shims. I got fed up of the brake noise...ran them when I first got the car with great success and followed the same bed in procedure but they remained excruciatingly loud this time around for some reason despite a smooth rotor surface (pro-cut lathe). Had them flush the system as well...stuck with Motul RBF600

Installed the Binary Eng seat brackets on Saturday with a friend. It was a painless install and one of my favorite mods to date. As a tall guy the evos high seating position made it difficult trying to settle in but I lived with it. It was either legs good but steering and shifter too far or legs cramped under the steering while steering and shifter distance were good.

Seats out via the 4 14mm bolts and 6mm allen

Seats back in


About a solid 1.5-2" drop but it makes a world of difference. Should have done this a loooooong time ago.

Also installed some cf jdm rear extensions. I'm usually one to put performance before aesthetics but they were a gift and turned out pretty nice against the grey. I like subtle exterior mods...so I think I'll keep going along this vein:

They are stainless steel...not sure of grade but we'll see how they hold up. I wash the car once a week and park her inside so I'm not too concerned.

Installed DC sports downpipe today finally.....thank god for breaker bar...but still fail at removing the 2nd o2 sensor, cuz i stripped the bolt before using breaker bar. So i decided to just fuck it and live with the CEL from now on

I used pressure washer, it probably works the best. But the bottle says pressurized hose is fine too. Just not the hose without a head.

Short stroke and coilover sleeve mod and NRCA's.

New strut insert is 60mm shorter than stock, so I sectioned 40mm out of the tube and made a 20mm spacer, putting the shock in a neutral position (ie. not bottoming out).
Then I welded on some new perches for coilover sleeves and added NRCA's to get the steering back to proper geometry and add a few degrees of camber (camber plates down the road).

Soooooooooo.....went to see the ITR today since the body shop has had it since July . I'm trying to get them to fix a disgustingly horrible repair job only to find out that it's just been sitting in their back lot rotting away the past month or so. More . To top it off it was absolutely COVERED in bird shit. I was just going to take it away from their lot so I could store it inside at my work, our of the elements. Some of the untreated bare metal that they haven't fixed yet is starting to rust . Went to start it and the battery is dead. Argh!! car is still is their possession and maybe, just maybe, I'll see it this afternoon. Unrepaired of course, but at least I could store it inside. I have had quite the relationship with my car since 2003 and it pains me to be at this point. I feel like I've let her down.

I'm passed mad at this point and pretty much just laughing hysterically about it(while crying inside). The car is almost meaningless to me now and if I knew that the quality of the repair job and time it has taken to get it to this point I would've settled for a payout months ago.

Perhaps not the right section for this rant so apologies if I broke code.

Yes, it has sucked all the way through. The first few months were ICBC deciding if they would fix the car. Once that was settled finding all OEM parts brand new from dealerships cost another month or two, supposedly. Then, once the repairs were supposedly completely I viewed the car and drove it. It operated fine but stuff was loose and rattling. I brought it back and pointed out the 30+ little things that were wrong with it and he said leave it with me. Painted mis-matched, front lip loose and damaged already(maybe they bottomed out somewhere), bolts missing, overspray, body shop dust covered the engine bay, paint cracking already, etc. The list is long. That was over a month ago and it's just been sitting in their back lot ever since. A shop fixing their mistakes costs them money so I'd imagine that's why it's been sitting. Just waiting for a day where he has time to do it. I fear that day will never come. I'll probably just end up complaining to ICBC about the repair and fighting with them and fighting with the body shop. It's been very unpleasant so far and the end is no where in sight.

Dude the nightmare I had with my Supra after my friend crashed it... totally killed my love for the car

Finally fixed my driver side headlight. A couple years ago, the driver side highbeam stopped working after an incident on the side of the road on the Sea to Sky. I just lived with it, having only 1 high beam was good enough for me. Then recently, it magically turned on once, and stayed stuck open. It was weird. Finally was able to bring it to the shop today, and one of the pins on the hi-lo beam controller thingy connector doodad was pushed in, so I pushed that back out and it works. Finally I can have both of them working, and no more getting flashed by oncoming traffic for having one side stuck.
