World Rally Blue & Rio Yellow Pearl (or is it Spa? I'm just going off by the AP2 headlamps) in a well-lit clean garage

put in my new lights
got morimoto xb35 d1s 4500k bulbs

anyone know what might be causing that extra light above the cutoff?

twitchyzero 06-25-2015 11:45 PM

the notch (where the wire is) on the bulb is oriented as pointing down?
I was thinking the beam is being bounced off by a nearby reflector bowl but the genesis headlight doesnt suggest that

J.C 06-25-2015 11:48 PM

i thought the notch problem was for h11's
i had that issue when i had the halogen lamps, but these are the projector lamps

i'm thinking its the way i put in the bulb
i think the d1s can fit all 4 ways
might have to play with it a bit

If you have halogen projectors that are designed for halogen bulbs. The light above are called "Squirrel finders" its so that theres a bit of light above with halogen bulbs, with hid it lets too much light leak thru.

Theres essentially a hole. yours might not be as big as the pic above it could just be a sliver, a simple fix could be use aluminum tape to tape up the hole OR get real projectors.

I like to dip it dip it.... I like to dip it dip it.

just playing around with da dip... nothing serious.. wanted to test its durability... will be coating it over the weekend with glossifier. again, this is just a test... to determine how dirty it gets, how durable it is, and eventually how easy it will be to remove. The TYpe S emblem turned out badly so have to redo that (hence why its not on the vehicle)

i have the stock xenon headlights so they are actual projectors
they are not the halogens

i read up on the squirrel finders apparently they are there to illuminate street signs

Generally those are found only on halogen projectors, odd to see them on a xenon kit

Nice cars! Is that a Forester XT?

Do you live on Burke Mountain? I think I saw you coming down Coast Meridian today.

Ronac 06-26-2015 07:59 PM

Yeah that's my car. Today it would have been my girlfriend driving it. Anytime you see a blue xt with gold wheels, its most likely me. It's a pretty rare car combo here.

Helped a friend do some final touch up before track
Did the spark plug and compression test

Enjoyed the coilover mod so I am prepared when i find a super sweet deal on the m3 version(hopeless dreaming mode.lol)

Oshiguru 06-27-2015 08:59 PM

Didn't like how the new Work Emotion center caps come in chrome only, so I got em painted bronze to match my wheels. Also took off the wheels to clean the inner barrels.

^ if it's not making noise yet can't you rebuild it?

It won't snap as long you drive normally and don't put it off for a really long time. I'd change it sooner just cause knowing all that grease is spraying all over the car would irk me.

You can but then the kit + labour to re/re it end up costing the same or more than a new aftermarket axle.

Peturbo 06-28-2015 08:33 AM

If the axle is fine, I suggest just changing the boot. Aftermarket axles aren't always the greatest.
I've ran into issues many times when installing aftermarket axles into customers cars. Ending up in warrantying the axles quite often. They are never as good as the OE axles.
labour rate of replacing the axles vs replacing the boot isnt too far off.

thumper 06-28-2015 08:47 AM

are "remanufactured" and "aftermarket" axles the same thing? i don't have enough knowledge in this. the last time i tried to buy replacement axles at lordco they only had "remanufactured" ones that required my old ones as a core.

LP700-4 06-28-2015 09:41 AM

Im not sure how long its been leaking so to play it safe im gonna replace the entire axle. No sounds are heard yet so i guess thats a good sign. Burrard acura told me that an aftermarket axle will be as good and drive like an OEM one for a lot less than the 570 dollar OEM axle.

Not sure how much i trust that so I ordered an new OEM from states for about 220 shipped. Very surprised at the price difference. Gonna find a shop to install it when it arrives (any recommendations?) and should be good to go.

J.Bell 06-28-2015 10:29 AM

Where you order the new axle from in the states? I need new axles for my b16 and new ones from Honda here in Canada cost $480 ish each, and not goin with cheapo replacement axles cuz my car is pretty low and cheap axles vibrate like crazy.
