Now that I've adjusted properly, I love it. Can't imagine going back to stock.

kakucaekz 08-15-2015 04:16 PM

Made a heat shield. Cut out using tin snips (which broke) and forming with a sanding wheel. Aw yeah. Only cost $5 in materials.

Test fit, then shaved off a bit more and bent it some more.

I have no idea what colour to paint it. I was thinking black or silver, but something tells me I should do something cool/stupid/both.

Spoon Lip, 16x7 +35 Regamasters, stickers on the regas lol, 215/45/16 Azenis, CT Icebox, centric premium rotors, stoptech pads, SS brake lines.. and a lot of camber to make wheels fit :s

Next week were going to put the black 16x7 +45 regamasters on and the Koni/GC i have collecting dust... then send for proper alignment.

It was a busy 8 hours anyway lol

All the camber I had to dial in for the +35 wheels to fit has totally fucked up the balance of the car... might be too much poke for me... mehhh

tastic 08-16-2015 08:57 PM

The OZ wheels look great on the R.

Tackled the valve cover gasket on my e46 last night. Overall a lot easier than I expected, first time doing it. Car only has 118k km and the gaskets are incredibly hard and brittle. A lot of them actually broke when I nudged it to try to take it out :s Are the gaskets supposed to be like that overtime, or is that just a clear sign that it should have been replaced a long time ago?

Lots of golden brown oil gunk on the top of the cover, which is apparently normal with BMW's as they recommend oil changes at ridiculous intervals (as per e46fanatics)? Yuck.. Will always be changing my oil at 5k or lower intervals.

While I had everything apart I was also able to route my angel eye wires along with the stock wire harnesses :) Don't really notice a difference before and after since a lot of the plastic pieces around the engine bay covered the wires previously, but makes myself feel better having everything routed along the stock wires. Also had to take out the radiator fan and intake to find a missing bolt that was caught in between the undertray and engine, which kinda sucked but eh

I put my clutch and motor mounts to the ultimate test of strength and durability; I had a driving lesson with the GF (manual transmission) last night. :heckno:
After about fifteen minutes of bucking and jerking, she started to figure it out.

Let's just say the clutch is less grabby than before.
Just another excuse to throw in a lighter flywheel sooner. :toot:

I changed out my in tank pump for a Walbro 255 thinking that it was a bad pump causing my random no start issues. Unfortunately it didn't solve my issue, but I have a loud fuel pump now...

I had the same issue before.. and it was a shitty old igniter causing it...

Spoiler!

I'm planning to change the VCG on my car soon. Any tips? How long did this procedure take you?

Limitless 08-21-2015 12:38 PM

Keep your bolts labeled and organized, other than that there's really nothing else haha it's a really simple and straight forward job. One part I did mess up on though is that I thought the gaskets stuck to the top of the cover, and they were all really brittle so I had to spend a while prying them off while they kept breaking into little pieces. Put the new ones in, then when I tried to bolt the cover back on it wouldn't sit flush. Checked again, one of the gaskets by the coil packs actually stuck onto the block so I was trying to put a gasket on top of a gasket -_- Stupid mistake, but yeah as long as you double check everything you shouldn't really run into any problems. Opening the valve cover was kind of hard though since it was stuck on there pretty good

Updated the old "R8" badge to the newer badge found on the 2014+ models.
