Rebuilt front calipers with RB kit.
Installed ECS tuning SS lines.
Flushed with RBF660.
Old pistons out.
Yes, the top part of the pistons are hard plastic. They do melt and crumble on the track.
Solution: RB pistons, high temp seals
ECS SS Lines! Perfect fit
Done!
Ready for track duty!

Tried to put on my Winters today, yes I know it's pretty much March they should be called "Springs"... but my 140 treadwear Federal 595 RSR aren't liking all the km's I've been putting on em and they're terrible in the rain. The winters are Pirelli Sottozeros, not too many choices in this low profile/narrow 17" size (205/40-17) but I've seen decent reviews on them. I got a screaming deal on these including the plastidipped stockers anyways so I can't complain regardless.
Rears went on no problem but the front lug nuts wouldn't come off as the 19mm socket wouldn't fit over the front nuts. Apparently the OEM 19mm chrome Ford nuts that I've been using have a tendency to swell up.
Some of you may know my car was left at Brown Bros for about 2.5 months for a new tranny and I can't help but suspect their techs may have something to do with it. Guessing they overtorqued the fronts or used a 12 pt socket and left the rears untouched. I've tracked the car twice with these lug nuts and never had any issues with them.
I'm going to see how well a 20mm socket will fit over it but I'll have to do that tomorrow as I don't have any other tools at my new apartment. A buddy of mine that's a tech at Ford said that this happens a lot and they usually just hammer on the 19mm and it'll come off. There's a chrome cap on the nuts and that is the part that swells up, you can cut it off to expose the 18mm nut underneath but I don't want to risk damaging my Team Dynamics so I'll just try my other options first.
Was recommended McGard lug nuts for something that can take a fair bit of abuse, car is a 12x1.5 so it's a pretty common nut thread pitch. Anything else you guys suggest I take a look at? I don't really want something like Mutekis or Rays as they seem a bit too precious to be taking an impact to.
Can't you try a SAE socket? Might be enough of a difference to slipping without going to a 20mm. Hammering is also an option, I mean they're buggered anyhow.
Urghh I just dealt with the same thing tonight. I could get the 13/16th socket on, but once the lug was removed I had to grab a screwdriver and knock the lug out of the socket...
Also, new wheels wrapped in PSS are on! Ignore the 4x4, it's still partially on the jack lmao.

ilvtofu - a 3/4" is just a hair bigger than a 19mm, might be worth trying to get that on or at least use that socket to beat onto the ruined lugs so you're not damaging the 19mm for later use.

Continuation
Spoiler!
Ive put in probably 9-10 hours or so just the walnut blasting alone .
4-5 hours being the first intake hole :bellyroll:bellyroll
The first hour so 2nd guessing my self if the valve is fully closed or not
Coming from honda you turn the crank to play with the valves manually i couldnt apply that to the 1er since there more work to be done if i go that route.lol
I finally stop being paranoid and did the starter way and it worked like a charm!
The reason it took me hours on the first one was because i had not exp just yet! It had to follow how everyone does it from the DIY
So i probably walnut blasted that hole 5x and still alot of carbon build left. I decided to spray carb cleaner and viola! carbon build soften and the next walnut blast clean everything right of! I should have figure that out sooner but like i said no exp so i had to follow step by step!
2nd time around i applied what i learned from the first and i was able to cut the time and effort!
I did my own method this time instead of walnut blastingfrom the getgo i soak it with carb cleaner and break it down first
This is after the first walnut blast
I was able to cut the walnut blasting to just 2-3x
by the 3rd i felt like a pro at the point had the perfect rhythm going
I use a combination of tools
I use a siphone to suck excessive amount of the carb cleaner and carbon.
Seeing as its combustive i was scared of making the shop vacuum bomb!.haha
until i hit cylinder 6 and broke the tool!!
I got to comfortable with it lol next time would opt for the aluminum version.
After its all done my my bones, joints and muscles are pretty much in pain
This helped a bit ahah
But its totally worth it knowing that the car will drive even better!
1000th post woooo
changed the headlight bulbs. Read online that its a real pita and you need slim hands. Thought my little asian hands would do, but that wasn't the case. Ended up taking an hour with some raging to get them in

I'm fucking loving the updates and the balls you put into this build!
Thanks man!
11 months prior i had no bmw exp and i always thought it was not diy friendly.(Plus the story of none car friends with there horror bmw stories didnt help )
Im very surprise that it is and some of the mods are easier to do than my 22 years old honda!
Broke the myth for me that's forsure
I dont know if its normal but i seem to develop an OCD attitude as of late.lmao
Its annoying but in this case i welcomed it.
Spoiler!
I kept at it with the cleaning the valve guide hole and there is so much carbon left stuck overthere!
I use a combination of pick sets ( dont sleep on those liquidation stores they got some hidden useful tools for cheap)
All I can say good job to take on all this. I am more afraid to work on the BMW because everything is just so much more expensive to fix when something goes wrong compared a Japanese car. But good on you doing everything hands on.
