Tore into the YJ this morning and figured out what it needs, then tore into the WK Grand Cherokee this evening and replaced all the glow plugs, the glow plug controller, the fuel filter and started on the front diff bushing replacement. Somehow everything has been easier than expected on the WK, definitely not something I'm used to. |

Finally got around to rebuilding my front calipers. One piston was seizing awhile ago but temporary broke it free with a big pry bar. Caliper piston seals and dust boots were ordered after but sat in my room for quite awhile til now. Hulk smashed out the second front diff bushing on the WK Grand Cherokee, popped the first replacement back in the "correct" way (after failing to do it the easy way previously), went to do the second one and ended up bending it since it wasn't perfectly lined up :QQ: Now I've gotta wait til Tuesday to get one from Wyatt so I can button this thing up. On the plus side I mostly finished up the elephant hose mod, so no more blown swirl motor! |

Had a pair of RDX caliper covers from my old TL... the ones you buy to put on the rears. well, TL gone but kept the caliper covers...since the RDX already has these covers on the front - why not do the back? Installed the Programa V2 Lowering Module on the weekend. Easy to follow instruction and very well done kit. It utilize the factory airmatic. It can drop the airmatic at max 50mm. the front is now 30mm and the back is at 50mm drop. Pretty happy with the result. Replaced both front diff bushings on the Grand Cherokee (pretty easy when I found out you can just spin the diff around without removing it), along with the fluid in both diffs and the transfer case as they were all disgusting looking and low. I didn't feel like buying an overpriced 14mm allen wrench so I DIY'd one by welding some 14mm nuts onto a bolt and putting it in the socket, it looks stupid but it works great. |
^ princess auto sells oversized Allen wrenches for fairly cheap. Bought a 12mm last year for only like $10. Good enough quality if you only use it once and a while. |
The only one I saw was in a big set that was $25, the front drain plug was so seized in I never would've been able to get it out with an allen wrench anyways. Since I already have a welder I'd rather just make my own funky sizes for $2 and not really care if anything happens to them. |
Did a tuneup on the YJ, new cap, rotor, plugs, wires, belt and fuel pump today, oil change will be later this week. This is posted in my "build thread" too but figured it would be appropriate here too. Excuse the crap pics as this wasn't the first priority lol. Coming back from my vacation I knew the first thing I'd be doing is rebuilding the vanos (variable valve timing unit in BMW). Started Friday evening and finished Saturday afternoon. Valve cover off https://scontent-sea1-1.cdninstagram...77315080_n.jpg Started working on taking the vanos apart https://scontent-sea1-1.cdninstagram...NzcxNg%3D%3D.2 AND it came off https://scontent-sea1-1.cdninstagram...59716112_n.jpg So then the actual unit had to get disassembled https://scontent-sea1-1.cdninstagram...81442573_n.jpg Inside what you can expect are two of these pistons (if your car has dual vanos obviously, one if single vanos). You can see the seals on these have flattened out which as a result allow oil to pass through. This hinders torque and you feel the car bogging down when coming off the line. https://scontent-sea1-1.cdninstagram...51576264_n.jpg Followed by that I changed out the spacers inside the actual piston since over time these cause a rattle (more common in the 330 zhp or anything with aftermarket cams). Do you guys get an alignment done every time you adjust your suspension? I just had my car aligned a month ago, but now I want to drop the rear about a finger after having spacers installed. I understand that any changes in the suspension will also alter the angles and whatnot, but what do you guys usually do? Yes definitely or not a big deal? |
1 Attachment(s) Purchased and installed this adjustable timing gear. Overnight from Japan (ok, $63 shipping which took 2 weeks from japan)... Ready for race wars. Except my gas tank isn't done from the refurb place yet. Fack. Cam is dialed in, and piston to valve clearances are looking great. |
