Generally speaking, an alignment should be done after suspension work. The car will love you more...

I replaced my super old 3.5yr old Blackvue DR-380GHD with a newer 1080p dashcam. Decided to move the 380 to the rear...it's pretty old so the video quality is not as good as it was even though it's been cleaned.

Anyways, it's wired up to the rear now...thoughts on overall rear coverage with the cam?
it's in a newer Acura RDX:

EDIT: camera adjusted and raised slightly higher:

maybe aim it upwards a little bit

haha I did the same with my Miata. Did you mount the camera on your headliner? Looks like it's not mounted directly on the glass?

asian_XL 06-12-2016 10:59 PM

my friends and parents said I was stupid to get a rear view cam...they shut up after I showed them this video

yah I went with headliner... due to limits of wire length. concealed the wires pretty good also. works good.

Dozens of dings and finger pressure mark depressions removed - $800. Original paint a little dull, and plenty of small chips left to be dealt with, but otherwise looks amazingly good.

New rear brakes and an oil change on the TSX.

prudz 06-15-2016 04:31 PM

did 10 hours of paint restoration... fuuckkk was it ever boring. At least the cherry pink turned back into milano red :) The hood came out amazing imo. 500 rock chips, virtually invisible now even when within a few feet of the car. You have to really look hard at the hood to see them as they are blended right in. I still need to switch over to BC plates :p

What did you do to get rid of the flaking?

There is no flaking. The bumps you see on the hood in the 1st and 2nd picture are actually the end result of a paint pen/brush. I had about 500 rock chips that required paint. When you properly fill the chips they create an excess amount of paint around the rock chip. To get rid of the excess you have to wet sand the chip down. In the 3rd picture you can see the beginning of the excess paint being sanded away. Once there is no more excess paint around the chip and only the new paint that filled the chip it should be completely even with the rest of the paint.

After that I took a heavy cutting compound (Griot's) to buff out the clear. The wet sanding was done with 1500 grit and 2000 grit. After the heavy cut (used to remove the heavy scratches in the 2nd pic) and any swirl marks, deep scratches etc from years of abuse I used 2 other polishes. A medium then a very fine. After the final polish I applied a paint sealant (Griot's). You rub this on by hand and let it sit for an hour. After the paint is sealed I took Autogleam wax and applied it by hand. Really it is about 7 stages included wet sanding. An ultra pain in the ass but it is how you can take worn out 16 year old paint and turn it pretty close to fresh. I'm pretty damn proud of how the hood turned out.

Also lol at the list, going to have to pass. This kind of work is not my idea of fun.

tofu1413 06-15-2016 10:24 PM

i'd actually pay you to restore my Accord's hood to that shape :megusta:

Nice work with the restoration. For anyone else interested, there's a video explaining this entire process.
