This is a tall person's problem lol.

I was driving a Cobalt a long time ago and I had the same problem, while my wife was fine.

Well, I will preface by saying my rule for buying a new car was that if I mod it, I cannot buy new parts. All must be used (or Craigslist bnib but not retail price). Everything I've gotten was at a significant saving from list price. I'll just say power mods

2014 focus ST. 32,500km
- Cobb accessport v3 running ots stage 3 93 octane @22psi
- fswerks CAI
- fswerks 3" catless DP
- mbrp 3" stainless catback
- turbosmart 50/50 BOV

The two limiting factors in the system are the stock intercooler and the stock turbo. I don't track my car, just daily drive. As such I've always watched the iat's and it is shockingly low and still cools quickly after pulls. Our climate is way milder than most guys in the states that have run into issues with overheating. But now I see the choke point. The turbo is crazy, full boost at about 2400rpm. Biggest issue is they run out of breathe over 5200rpm (as clearly shown on the dyno) so you pretty much have 1500rpm before redline that has no use.
Torque also significantly drops off after 4500rpm which is completely solved by swapping to a gt2876r, but then that's entering a whole new level of modifications I'm not ready for.

Still waiting for a used intercooler kit....

It's been a long hiatus off RevScene for me. Moved to the island, bought a house, renovated a shop and finally got down to car business again this winter.

Rally Bug now has a hydraulic clutch system which utilizes a hidden master cylinder in the transmission tunnel, and a concentric hydraulic throwout bearing in the transmission. The swap wasn't easy, and ended up well over budget...but it's done, and works awesome.

While I had the engine out, I stripped it down for a check/refresh. Definitely needed bearings after 92 thousand miles, and worked out my valvetrain noise (cracked timing gear). Being ahead of my usual spring schedule, I decided to swap the car over to fuel injection. Cue another 25ft of Russell Braided lines, and more fittings than I care to count. Surge tank up front, filters in the rear just before the firewall and separate fuel injection and ignition computer systems. Inside of the car is starting to feel like an Apollo mission.

The cold start settings on my map are still crap, worse than trying to start the engine on cold weber carbs (notoriously difficult). But once warm it idles perfectly and is coming together on the road tuning.

A little birdie told me you moved to the island... Is it a little strange when someone you don't know, knows things about you? ha

Looks good. I've been slaving away on my fuel injection all winter. Seems like it was a "I had a little extra time" project for you. haha

@CCA-Dave, are you planning on taking that beast to Knox hillclimb? Seems like it would be perfect for that event

I'm now at the point where I'm sorta used it. It's only awkward when meeting someone in person for the first time, and one of us knows way more about the other because of online forums. I met a guy at a RallyX last year who knew all about my car from some magazine features. The weird part, though, is there should have been zero way for him to connect me to the work I do with SRTUSA...that freaked me out a little.

But yeah, island move = house of my own and a big shop! I even have room to buy another Volkswagen project...

Fuel injection project totally started as a "meh, I probably have time" side project...but it ended up a little more involved then I thought. Between the need to have a custom starter built in California for the clutch project, and the injection install taking longer then I estimated...I figure I'm about two weeks behind where I'd "like" to be, and about four weeks ahead of where I usually am for my Spring events :P

Negative. While it is an event I would love to do, it conflicts with the Hagerty Silver Summit CCA event in Denver each year. I'll be doing 11,000 foot passes in Colorado all weekend on some of the best roads I've ever driven.

Cooked up my intake for dinner!

If you've been following my build thread you will know I ported my soon to be intake manifold, by doing this i cut it in half, then had it welded back together. I shaved a ton of extra nubs off of it for a slightly cleaner look but still wanted a factory look.

I decided to try the ever so popular in the 2000's wrinkle paint. That is what I'm baking in the oven.

I used some epoxy filler which contain aluminum to fill in some oopsies with the grinder. No holes, just ugly slashes. Unfortunetly I think the epoxy is off gassing still and made a few bubbles in the wrinkly. Ill have to fix those up tomorrow.

I tried the BBQ first but my bbq wasnt big enough to close the lid. Into the oven they went... And I went for some fresh air on the patio with a half bottle of wine. Despite the rain.

When I successfully fix the bubbling ill spray it with some aluma blast and hopefully it all finishes off looking like a plain old cast aluminum manifold.

DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU LIVE WITH SOMEONE. Omg it stinks and my wine is getting low. Should have started with a full bottle.

hahaha, it is indeed. I need to find the battery drain that developed mid-winter...and on cold starts it basically fills my yard with smoke...but hey, cummins.

I nearly gave up because I wanted to take out the radiator fan first; I failed at that and was about to throw in the towel when I said screw the fan...

The_AK, have you checked your oil filter housing if its good? If you don't have an oil cooler, it may be just slightly easier to change, but still PITA to get 3rd bolt out

Sigh. Well, not today but yesterday...

Was over on the mainland, doing the route book for this year's Hagerty Spring Thaw. Partway through 'day two' the clutch started acting fun, like there was air in the hydraulics. Bleeding the Dodge clutch system is ridiculous (there is no bleed screw), so I opted to not worry about it. Wasn't losing any fluid, bottom of trans was dry, I can drive sans clutch if the master or slave goes...so carry on I did. Finished the route, was doing about 120kph just past Agassiz when I heard a very light bearing whine. I lifted partway, the whine got worse, tried a bit more throttle, still worse.

Hit my signals to move over to the right lane, and the transmission grenaded internally. Made it to the shoulder, before the drivetrain locked solid.

First time I've ever towed a vehicle to a shop...geesh, I must be getting old.

I ended up blowing the truck up 30km from a buddy's house in Greendale, upon hearing of my plight he offered me dinner...and then the keys to his Porsche 914 2.0L. "I need it back at the end of April, have fun!"

So now that I'm back home on the island, I'm digging into a job I offered to do for a buddy of mine. The blower motor on this 2006 Range Rover has bad bearings. 5.5 Hours into digging, still nowhere near the blower motor. Possibly regretting getting into this :P

8.5 hours total to get to the blower motor on the range rover:

Another 4 hours to make it all look like a car again:

So, before the rain came, I took a break on the Range Rover and washed 'the collection'...

Unfortunately the Porsche 914 isn't mine, a buddy loaned it to me when my truck exploded so I could get back home to the island. Tonight I finally got the Range Rover *almost* finished. New brake pad wear sensors, repair the leaking taillight, fix the burnt out bulbs. Just gotta clear an airbag light, road test it to see if the dash rattles, and put the summer tires on...

I'm a couple days late, but Saturday was a busy day. I hardwired my dashcam, ran power to my auxiliary fuse box, swapped my remote start over to the new fuse box, wired in my sub (stock headunit), wired in diff lock indicator LEDs, trimmed my damaged front bumper and vacuumed out a ton of crap from the previous owner. Then I took pictures of the auxiliary reverse light I added without needing to cut into the stock wiring at all so I can do a writeup.

I've got a friend's 356C Coupe in my shop right now. You haven't tasted fear until you take a saw to someone else's 356! Haha. Can I go back to working on vehicles that I can afford to replace if I screw up? :P

The power unit I was using to run my dashcam setup no longer shuts down if the battery gets below a certain level. What are you using on your setup...since I have to buy a new one?

Right now it's ignition switched so I don't have one, I've got a Lukas Powerbox I got from Limitless at TS Auto Design a few years back that I'll be putting in when I add the rear camera (since people seem to insist on continuing to bash into my rear bumper).

Ugh tell me about it. It's probably a sign from God that there isn't a maserati owners club in Vancouver. It would be the biggest collection of fobs and dicks around. It might even rival the douchyness of the BMWs owners club.
