Shame to use these as winters..... test fit by putting them up to the car. 18x8 A-specs hyper silver. My summer wheels are in better shape https://i.imgur.com/toEH3aC.jpg https://i.imgur.com/vRenI8c.jpg |
Removed all the cooling components and belts. Completed full taillight swap. Replaced temp sensor, water pump, and water pump pulley. The most lengthy and tedious part of the job was getting things off the car. Things that should have come off easily like the water pump pulley (after removing 4 bolts), expansion tank (after removing all the hoses and locking bracket), and hoses (after removing clips and prying a bit) - didn't. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0115d5a46b.jpg Facelifted LED tailights https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...435702cf5d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...effb195856.jpg Old WP and Old WP Pulley (this seized onto to WP AND its plastic). I don't have pics of the AC belt, but that was shredded. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5fa09147eb.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...89276b4b92.jpg One of these is supposed to be an Accessory drive belt tensioner (mechanical) and an AC Belt Tensioner, but i can't tell which one it is and they don't look like the ones currently on the car. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ea39951c63.jpg Putting the drive belt back on got a little interesting, we couldn't get enough leverage with a 3/8 drive ratchet, so we took the end of the jack and used it as an extension. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d070776793.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d0a35ccc64.jpg Coolant causes a huge mess, but whatever, I'm used to my garage being a mess. |
Working on cars in driveways like that in winters build real men |
you should wear gloves bro. that shit aint great for your hands and worse if you accidentally ingest it. |

Look at that progress. Good job. An E36 cooling system job stumped me once to the point where I towed it to a shop. Good job. |

Edit: Still not done yet tho, still gotta figure out that tensioner pulley, put on the hoses, rad, expansion tank and do the coolant flush Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk |
Lucky enough to have the right OEM head unit to use North American Toyota Navigation DVDs. Went into the secret menu, loaded the NA West DVD that I found on the cheap, and it works. Unfortunately, Toyota killed support for these early navs so it's only accurate for 2014. https://i.imgur.com/NkKPf4s.jpg |
So anyone know the differences in the pulley tensioners? I think that's the only thing holding me back from completing this repair. |
Wasted no time waking up the supercharger with a CTS Turbo Intake. Whines so loud now its almost embarrassing  https://i.imgur.com/nlFb3M2l.jpg |

Ugh....I will never use plastidip ever again....it’s junk on wheels....gets dirty and looks like shit. To complicate things, these wheels were dipped AND then painted over with high gloss duplicolor spray paint. Didn't take enough pics today, but car is back up and running! Hoses and other parts were easy to slip on (after greased with dialytec grease) - no drama whatsoever. I just need to mount the headlights back on for it to roadworthy, and a nice detail for it to be car guy worthy. Fun fact, the oem coolant sensor is ghetto af. Next on the list, suspension. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...07a0ee2a63.jpg Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk |
I'm going to tell myself what you put into the radiator is OEM BMW coolant. |
Jks I lied, car isn't fixed, but it's running. I get the most trivial issues ever. The corner indicator housing won't bolt back on LOL. What you're supposed to do is loosen the retaining screw enough so the fork on the housing can come out of the plastic mounting tab. But what I did is take the entire screw out, and when I took the housing out, the basket came with. I initially thought the basket just came off the fork, so I glued it back on, with contact cement. Didn't work. I also tried ghetto rigging it with zip ties. Didn't work. It holds it in place well enough for the housing not to fall out to the ground, but still loose enough to look like it could fall out. So I thought the hole was too big. Turns out the whole housing is held on by a retaining screw in a basket. But what I suspect is that the PO didn't mount all the hardware back on when swapping to clear corners. What I think I can do is to stick a plastic plug into the hole and thread the screw straight in. Or just figure out where to buy the hardware and figure out how to mount it back. Some pics for reference https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0af26676d8.jpg Ghetto rig https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8ed259b592.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9f22b328cf.jpg What was supposed to happen https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...529f6d59fb.jpg The hardware that was SUPPOSED to come with the car https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d367b12390.jpg Yep. That's me. LOL |
Don't feel too bad. Broke my corner lens clip and ended up zip tying it in today. |

Took the car out for some errands, to see how badly the housing will fall out. Not too bad. Ordered a part from BMW, $8 for a piece of plastic, 2 ushaped washers, 1 washer, and a screw. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f16581eaba.jpg This is as far as it'll come out, with zip ties on. |

Fixed the ghetto-rig ziptie set up with a new turn signal carrier bushing (63-12-6-912-012) Before: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...fac38d019f.jpg After: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...16bc49cdaf.jpg The broken side: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b7ed60f442.jpg What it's supposed to look like: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1e31c6eca0.jpg Parts that I used for this (63-12-6-912-012). For a 02 330ci e46 coupe, I only had to use the small u-shape on the black tab and the basket with the retaining screw. Now I feel stupid for paying Autowest $8.38 for this. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4f316a21ef.jpg Edit: Also just noticed how my car's engine is significantly quieter after doing the cooling overhaul, drive belts, pulleys, and tensioners |
